Fished NJ just about all my life. In 5th or 6th grade I wrote a small book titled Fishing in NJ. Not much really, I was only trapping and fishing the Raritan River in Bridgewater at the time.
Since then I worked part-time at Efinger's in the fishing dept. for 13 years, and worked part-time fishing and camping dept. at Sports Authority for 2 years.
I've fished bass ponds in Sussex, and the Hudson Canyon for tuna. I love it all, fresh, salt, ice fishing, crabbing, clamming, inshore, offshore, long range.
I'll try to help when I can, for me it's:
April, May, June: freshwater
July, August: crabbing, boating, swimming
September, October, November: saltwater
December, January,February: saltwater/ice fishing
Don't hold me to this !
There is Fishing, and there is Fishing in New Jersey, a diamond in the rough.
The wife is a former State Record Holder for Brown Trout, figures she catches the big fish, she caught the fish, I gave her a wedding ring...............AndyS t^

Very nice post. I also grew up at the shore, fishing, crabbing, swimming, etc. When i turned 16, (no laughing at this one), I worked in Kmart in the fishing dept. All day long I was around and working with the sport I love the most. Childhood memories, turns into adult hood reality....

Hi AndyS,
Welcome Aboard. This site is growing by leaps and bounds. The people here are full of information and are willing to share it openly. We look forward to your reports and I am sure you will be rewarded by finding out things you would never have thought of.
I have been fishing NJ all my life which make it over 55 years(i'll be 60 this year ouch :-X). I am still learning new techniques and about new equipment. Go figure, I held out switching over to braid from mono, this past week I re-spooled all my reels to braid. What a difference.
Happy Catching

Welcome to the site. Looking foward to your posts.

im surprised you waited so long to switch to braid... you wont be able to go back
-
I know that now. You know, old dogs...
But I have to say you guys are right.
It is remarkable how far that stuff casts. And as far as messing up your fingers I wound up casting plugs for over 5 hours this past weekend and my fingers are fine.
Hay I'm Polish leave me alone... t^
Happy Catching
