Title: any trout fisherman here
Post by: catfish hunter on March 07, 2007, 11:58:29 PM: I know most guys enjoy the salt water but I always enjoy a nice quite stream at sunrise ,who here trout fish's and how did you make out last year ,I had a great season ,I fished around 2-3 days a week for them and caught a ton of fish w/ alot of breeders

Post by: shadyvito on March 08, 2007, 08:11:45 PM: Down here on this end of Jersey trout gets stocked in the lakes and only one river (Maurece in Salem)which basically runs through a city. It just doesn't feel like trout fishin. I go for trout when I'm down in Nashville. Let me know a couple good spots for trout that isn't too far from Glouster. Oh yeah, where did you catch that goldie?

Post by: robsrodnreel on March 08, 2007, 09:05:17 PM: vito, you got to make it up north. alot of people have some bad things to say about jersey and our outdoors, but we have some wonderful places in our state. take a night and camp out at stokes or the gap. youll have wild trout streams along with stock streams and stocked lakes at your finger tips

Post by: Chris n on March 08, 2007, 09:29:21 PM: With limited time to trout fish I did ok...I caught I think 15 trout in the spring and got my first ever limit..in 30 minutes before my baseball game ;D...in the fall I caught three of the nice 14"+..lost one for the winter trout stock but I did good..only my third serious year :)

Can you do me a favor and get me some info on where to go to fish for some wild trout. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Post by: robsrodnreel on March 11, 2007, 08:31:11 PM: shady, there are about 36 wild trout streams that are listed in the fishing compendium from the state. other than that, you just have to research on your own. there are many to be found!!!!! i myself only know of a few that arent "listed", but there are a bunch of them!!!

Post by: jerseejim on March 16, 2007, 11:52:46 AM: If you live in South Jersey, I find it easier to fish in South East PA. (Ridley Creek, Pickering Creek, Valley Creek, ect...) From Williamstown I can make it to these streams withins 35 minutes. The only draw-back is the out of state license will cost I believe $60 dollars +/-. There is some nice fishing though over in PA.

Post by: brijones1 on March 29, 2007, 12:31:22 PM: I usually trout fish a least once a week, but when the season starts I will go whenever I get a chance. I go for Steelhead quite often as well. I caught this one in Erie on Elk Creek. One of many fish, if you plan on fishing for Steelhead don't even bother going to NY because the average run for the year is around 6,000 and in the PA smaller tribs is around 50,000 that return each year.

As far as Nymphs I love anything with a beadhead: Princes 12-18, Hares Ears 14-18, Pheasant Tails 16-18

And regular nymphs:
Pheasant tails 16-22
Olive and Black hares ears 14-18
princes 14-18
brassie 20-22
various midges 14-20
black, brown, golden stones 10-12
red, brown san juan worms 12-18

Streamers:
Woolybuggers brown, black, dark green, 10-14

wet flies:
see dry flies and sizes I usually have a couple of all the dry flies I use
