I'd like to get into tying my own bucktail dressed hooks for my plugs. I've seen kits and such, and I put together a list of stuff I need, but I'm not sure what type of glue/adhesive/cement is used to finish the threads off at the end.
Oh, and if someone knows of a cheap vise to use too, that be great! I can't see spending $150+ on a vise.

I use gorilla glu for the thread and my vise is a par of forsnips in the bench vise

I use clear nail polish for my bucktails on the threads...
I also am using a bench vise but would love to get into a proper hook vise as well...

if your just tying siwash hooks for your plugs, you dont need an expensive vise. if you really start to enjoy tying, and want to start tying teasers or flies in general, you may find that a rotary would benefit you more.
also, if you only plan on tying bucktail siwash hooks, you are better off spending your money on quality hooks and materials individually over spending money on a kit that would include items you may never use.
also, sally hanson hard as nails is cheap and works great. has a brush in the bottle as well for the thread.

Jeff do yourself a favor and just get the deluxe Cabelas vice with all the tools I think it is about 39 bucks.
As far as the covering I use a head cement or you can use a good clear nail polish. Once you get into tying your teasers, flies, or any stuff like that I use an epoxy that sets up in 5 minutes. I have a dryer that turns them so it a neat package.
It is easier than you might think. If you have free time give a call and yo9u can pop over I can show you how I tie.

Sally Hanson Hard as Nails available from any drug store.
KISS at first. Especially if you're just doing simple teasers, bucktails and plug tails.
A vise, a bobbin, small scissors, Xacto knife.
Thread - I'm liking clear thread lately so I don't have to match thread color to the tail I'm doing at the the moment.
A couple colors of deer tails, synthetic hairs and flash.

I like the mono .006 for tying the heads. When the epoxy is cured it brings out the color of whatever is below it. Pretty cool.
Good going Rod. That is what I started with and I still use it today. It is a work horse. I just bought a box of 100 stainless hooks by Mustad REF34007 size 2/0. I will be making all sorts of stuff over the winter to use out front and I am planning to do more fly fishing out back as well.
