Can someone please tell me when the annual fishing derby for kids is. I believe it's at Spring Lake. I have never gone but now my daughter is really into fishing I want to take her. I though I heard it was on April 9. Not too sure. Thanks in advance for any help.

I think it's the 9th. I know the lake Takanasee derby is on the 16th and the two are usually a week apart

Thank you FishOn. You just helped me keep my promise!! My daughter has been asking for weeks about it.

Not to turn you away from spring lake or anything but if you've never been to that derby be aware at how crowded it gets. Get there early! Takanasee derby doesn't get as big of a crowd

We'll get there plenty early. But what is the other derby you speak of. It's not the competition we're looking for it's for her to see how many other kids her age like fishing. She likes fishing alot but doesn't see to many kids her age fishing.

Both derbys are for kids only. From what I've seen, spring lake is more popular and and also on opening day. It's going to be crowded as it always is. I've heard of people camping overnight just to secure a spot in the am. Takanasee derby is a smaller derby in long branch. Both are great events geared towards allowing kids to have a good time. Go to both!! My first child (a girl) is due may 21 so I'm already planning these events out lol. My work posts a flyer for the takanasee event each year. I'll post up the contact info in a few hours

Better late than never. I have no info on the spring lake event but here is some info for takanasee. Sat April 16, 8am to 12 noon rain or shine. Long branch. Free registration starts 730am. Must be registered to win, youths only age 15 and and under. Sponsered by long branch pba local #10. More info call Jim 732-547-9981 or jack 732-233-1473. To make a donation contact Dominic 732-371-4741. Most importantly these kids participating are a big part of the future of this sport. Their memories will last a lifetime. Have fun!
