Title: Captains License
Post by: Spearfish on March 15, 2011, 07:38:36 AM
I received my captains license in the mail over the weekend.  I renewed it on line for the first time, and it was pretty easy.  Just had to scan in my application, drug test, and medical info and e-mailed it to the NYC REC.  Only took about a month to get it back.

Cool, congrats. I just sent mine in, hoping they don't find anything wrong with it to hold it up.  t^

Good deal. I'm in the process of renewing now.  Physical/drug test on tuesday. TWIC Card last week. Are there just as many forms as when you first applied?

No Matt. Pretty easy really. You can fill out the below documents on your computer and print them out. However, you can not save the filled out copy to your computer.

Application:

Medical evaluation form

http://uscg.mil/nmc/forms/medical/cg719k.pdf

Sea Service (you can not fill this one out on the computer, you have to print out and fill out by hand)

http://uscg.mil/nmc/forms/application/cg719s.pdf

Drug Test Form (Old 5 panel form still in use but the test now if a 7 panel)

Here is the site with all the forms

Very easy process. You no longer have to go to the REC office. You can mail in your package to NY.

Thanks Joe. Appreciate it. Mine actually expired last Sept. but you have the 1 year grace to renew, so I'm hammering away at this.

Matt,
You can scan the info and and e-mail it to the REC center.  The info is on the CG website, but I'll be glad to help if you need.

On March 28th, I was notified via email from the USCG that my Captain's License renewal has been approved and it was sent out and I would receive it within ten days.

Today, just two days later, I received my renewal in the mail. License is no longer a 'document' that you frame and hang. It is now a booklet similar to a passport.

So, the guys fishing with me still have to call me Captain and salute me when they come aboard. ;D

slt Aye Aye Captain!    Joe, The physical exam and drug test can be performed by my family Doctor?  I get my blood tested a few times a year for cholesterol issues, I guess he could just add the drug test next time I get checked out.

The physical exam can be done by your family dr.  The drug test has to be the Federal DOT 7 panel.

The renewal was a breeze compared to the initial issue.  t^
