BRICK — A kayaker was rescued Sunday from the water near Ridge Road and Bluff View Drive, Brick. The New Jersey State Police Marine Services Bureau of Point Pleasant responded to a call about the distressed kayaker around 4:45 p.m.

The man was kayaking by himself, police officials said. The man had left his kayak and became trapped up to his waist by river mud, according to a Laurelton Firehouse official who asked not to be named. He had been stuck in the water for more than two hours, he told officials.

Because of the temperature of the air and water at the time of his rescue, he went to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment.

Rescuers with the U.S. Coast Guard, the Brick Township Fire Department and Point Pleasant Borough emergency medical services also responded.

No additional information is available at this time.
