Found some small bass under the 24" mark.....feeding on some very small bait fish on the West side of the bay, along the marsh bed's.
I used every thing I had and could'nt get any fish to take a lure.....I took a fast ride back home to get the fly rod....and drove back to the same spot.....WoW fish are still there.....
Fishing on the West side of the bay.....With a Northeast wind blowing in your face and using a fly rod.....Sorry Im not at all that good of a fly fisherman to cast into a wind.
Im going nuts at this point.....I can see the fish come up on the surface and hit what ever that little bait was....Then came this crazy idea of pulling off the back hook of the yellow mambo minnow and I tied some mono leader to the back eye......Then tied the small fly to the other end.....Second cast fish on....It worked.
Crazy way to fish.....But this is what bass fishing does to a guy..... Bass busting all over drove me to the point of doing something so far out of the norm.....If I was fishing next to some guy who had this set up.....I think I may have walked away......
This will be used again another time out..... It worked great.....Give it a TRY

I tied a bunch os new patterns this winter just waiting to get out and try to see if they work. Some are pretty weird and some are known patterns. By the way you are fishing the out of the ordinary will work best.
Nice going Dave.

I came across these casting Eggs sold by Saltys Tackle.......Bingo Know we are talking. t^
Casting Eggs
New design for 2009 includes the brad installed to hold the hook in flight as done by Jerry Sylvester in the 50's!
1 oz and 2 oz casting eggs, a technique developed long ago by the pioneers of Striped Bass fishing. Used as a floating weight to cast with spinning gear for fishing around rocks etc, tie one side to your line, then you tie a short length of mono with a fly teaser/deceiver fly to the other side, the egg will float and have a "roly poly" action on top which attracts fish, then they see your fly etc and hit it! I will allow you to fish areas you normally can't due to excessive rocks etc. JUST the places that Striped Bass and most gamefish like to hang out :)
The eggs are very aerodynamic and cast very well! We've had these used worldwide on many different kinds of fish.
Absolutely deadly technique!
Ideally the best way to rig this is with a 4-5' leader of 30lb fluoro, and use the nail to hang the hook on the egg. Cast and the force of the wind keeps the fly, clam belly, sluggo, etc together with the egg. The egg lands and the force of the splash will cause the hook to fall off...fish it in!
Check out the web page...... and get your Egg order in.
Have a great weekend
