Title: Question about fluke rigs
Post by: Reckless on June 18, 2011, 05:42:26 PM
Most rigs I have seen are tie with a 3 way swivel. Main line one, hook and leader another, sinker on the third. When you are drifting the sinker is first. Doesn't that spook the fish? Is there another way of toeing them?  slt

When dragging bait thats the only way I have seen it done, leaving you the option to leave a long leader or to shorten your leader depending on drift conditions. Maybe one of our older and more seasoned Captains may know of a different way ;D If your on your boat you have that option to experiment with what ever you want to try  t^ You may come up with that new hot rig that puts doormats on the boat  clp

I think it attracts the fish than it spooks them. Especially if you are bouncing the sinker on the bottom. The bouncing can produce a 'puff' from the bottom which I think gets the fluke's attention.

I often replace the lead sinker with a chrome ball, spro or other type jig to add an additional bait and hook into the fray. I also typically use a fishfinder rig instead of the three-way swivel. But, to each his own.  t^

I try to hit the fluke in the head with the sinker, thereby knocking them silly.  Then I snag them in the butt with the hook trailing behind. ;D

Seriously, I can't think of a way to drag your bait in front of the sinker. :headscra:  Doesn't seem possible to me. 5hrug

no need for all that hardware as far as I'm concerned... surgeon's loop on the end for the weight and a dropper loop a foot up for the hook/leader is all I need.  At least this system raises the bait from the sinker alittle 5hrug
