Yup they are in nj, but they're rare. I've heard of them in Raritan Bay and the Hudson River. I think someone on this sight caught one a few weeks ago if I'm not mistaken. They're protected though, so its illegal to even remove them from the water.

Yup. They're anadromous like striped bass. They have the ability to survive in both fresh and saltwater.

Are you sure you are not seeing the giant carp that cruise Tak like submarines?  When I attended Monmouth unversity, I use to fish that lake between classes almost daily.  Lots of big carp in there that jump and splash when startled.  I can't imagine sturgeon being a common sighting in such a small heavily weeded lake.

Sturgeon in NJ, for sure.  Went out the other day and there was one washed up on the beach in IBSP.  Pretty cool looking.

In the early 1900's ,Sturgeon had a big market in the Hudson for it's caviar .Commercial fisherman would catch these giants and cut them open at dock side to harvest some of the finest caviar know to man . The carcass of the fish was then discarded after the harvest. Then there was none . 5hrug.What happened to all the sturgeon .None were left to reproduce.

Sturgeon are still around but very rare to see down this way.  With that said, there was one washed up on the beach this early spring and surprised us all that fish IBSP.
