Title: 06/21/2011 YFT/Blue Marlin
Post by: Chicken of the Sea on June 22, 2011, 09:52:00 AM
Left SRI at midnight with the crew of Danny, Kirk, Robbie and Dave for a canyon day troll. Found a 6 degree break and were up on the troll at dawn. Had 6 rods go off boated 3 nice yft, 2 skippies and lost one nice yft to a presumed blue marlin that dumped half a 50 before rubbing through the daisy chain leader- 3 for 4. Had another shot of 5 on and had the lines cross and lost 3 rigs -2 for 5. Had a nice big solo yft and 2 more rats that were released. Came tight on a big fish and 35 minutes later had a release on a 125" overall length blue marlin (video to follow). Had a white marlin up later in the day that cut the bally in half and missed the hook.

200 gallons gas - $814.00, ballyhoo - $50.00, 2 spreader bars - $140.00, 2 daisy chains - $80.00, lost downrigger $199.00, busted outrigger handle - $70.00 - getting your hands on the bill of a big blue marlin priceless!!!

God Bless Our Troops!

Great Video!!  Do you typically let people fight marlin standing or did you trust this group enough to do so?  Every marlin caught that I've been apart of was fought in a chair.  When my time comes I'd like to fight standing.

That was me on the marlin - we don't have the luxury of a chair so all of our fish are fought stand-up.
