Hi All,
Lifetime NY/LI fisherman here, just moved to Parlin and bought a Kayak. Feeling a little bit like a fish out of water being in a new state and being new to the kayak. I'll be stalking your forums for info so I figured I'd say hello first.

Thanks guys, Salty you can't tease a new guy like that. So far I've fished Sandy Hook (the outside was a bad idea) Belford and Leonardo. Am I heading in the right direction?

Welcome!! grtn
You can launch your YaK at Laurence Harbor beach rt.35 and fish the raritan bay triangle. Or Cliffwood or Union Beach to fish the Keyport Flats. And try Keansberg to fish by the pier. Many yakers fish near the sailboats at Keyport too. Good Luck. t^

If I launch at Laurence Harbor from the parking lot by the mouth of Cheesequake creek should I fish west towards south Amboy or East?

Thanks guys! Hey Kayak1, do you fish mostly at night? I haven't ventured out at night yet, do you normally fish alone at night or go out in groups?
-
Never with a group.....Plus not many would even think about going out at night fishing in a kayak...But for me its 100% better fishing at that time.
I may come across one boat at night if that....other wise I have the water to myself...

Alot of the LI guys that got me started in kayak fishing swear by fishing at night. By the fall I should be comfortable enough to take a night trip.
-
First Tip.......Stay around the Oceanic Bridge in Rumson.....Park on Washington ave......Off River Road its very easy for you to get in and out with the kayak.
Take a day trip first to get a feel for the area and the tide that runs around the bride.....The first night out.....Hang around the lights.....And fish the shadow's.
This one spot is great both in the spring and fall.....Bait or plugs.....

t^ t^ t^ Thanks kayak1! I'm off on Wed, I'll shoot down there and check it out. It's a little warm for daytime Bass but I'm sure I'll pull up a few Fluke and check out the bridge.
