Okay I know this summer I was MIA, but now that the fall season is upon us I am back in the game. The summer was hot and the flies were horrendous. But, now the mullet are in full migration and are along the beach in hoards.
The day started out pretty slow as my uncle and I got out there late around 9 ish or so and, well, I decided to go down to the pocket. Not much happening as the guys were trying their hardest to catch something off the rocks. The dredge was working so I am going to use that as the reason why nothing but black fish were being caught in the inlet it self. All small and all throwbacks.
It was about 12:30 and all we caught were 2 small snappers off the wall. So, we decided to head up north to Gillkins and I am glad we did. The bait of choice MULLET of course. There are just tons of them in the wash and if you have a throw net don't buy mullet they are all over the place. Give yourself about 1/2 an hour to fill up a bucket and you will have a blast all day.
We roll up to Gillies and set up, first cast 2 blues on and in the box. From that point on just about every cast we had a blue on and in the box. We were at gillies for about 1 1/2 hours and 1/2 filled the cooler with 1 to 3 lb fish with a couple going closer to 5 lbs. Around a 1/4 to 2 my uncle called it as he was to tired to go on. What a day with a great fishing buddy.
Right now if you go and you are looking for a starting place it is defiantly Gillkins for sure.
Right now time of day and tides do not seem to matter. In fact many are thinking that the blues are gorging themselves so much that they are heading off shore to rest up and head back in for more later.
Like I said the season has started and it is fun fun fun out there. By this time next month the blues and the bass will be in the suds weighing much more and that is what I am waiting for. But for now the pre game show is great.
Happy Catching

Good stuff Paul! Was in the park with ChrisL and a few other fellas last night. Some small blues, fluke, and a stargazer rounded out the catch from our troop. Did see a few rat fish with stripes pulled in!
