My 9 year old girls is all about collecting worms from our yard to use them to fish with. Instead of buying them from the bait store. Any suggestions on what is the best way about doing this would be awesome.

Look around and dig in anything that is decaying. Compost piles and dead leaves are the best places. The rain will bring them to the surface too. While she is looking for worms, have her look for crickets too...they make great bait as well!
Good luck and enjoy!!

I dump my lawn clippings in the back yard and the worms love hidding in the pile....2 shovel fulls of dirt yields about a dozen big worms....They hide under rocks too t^

She did some random digging earlier and found some. We will try looking tonight since the bround is still soaked from all the rain we have gotten. I will also check under leaves. I never thought about those.

Big rocks, the best I find is with a flash light at night you gotta be quick though. Then there's ways for other types of worms also

I use to walk the beach at low tide with a shovel and bucket, take enough for a nights fishing;upon leaving in the morning,if there were any, return the unused and remaining worms to the beach sand/bogs.
Now its easier to buy a flat. t^

Should be tons of night crawlers out with all this rain. Walk quietly and don't keep the light on them for to long.

Oh wow! this post brings me back 40 years, when my father would water the lawn before dark, then when the sun was down we would go out with a flashlight , spot them and gently hold the tail while they tried to escape. The water brings them to the surface and the light scares them under, you must be quick! It was fun, but you know, worms are good for your lawn, they aerate under ground with their digging, so don't do it too often. It is fun for a kid though!
