Title: Rod modification help
Post by: ChrisL on November 25, 2011, 01:05:19 PM
Looking for a little advice from some of the rod building guys.
I have a 10'6" St Croix Mojo.  I'd like to shorten the butt end a little, maybe 2 or 3 inches.  Also want to add a butt cap.  When the butt end is leveraged in my groin, the reel is just a little too high.  I'd get better leverage if it was a bit lower.

So the question part of all this, can I simply cut off the 2 or 3 inches myself (carefully) on the bandsaw, hacksaw, etc??  And then glue on the butt cap?
For reference, here's a pic of the rod...

No biggie to take a few inches off a blank.  I've cut them using a fine tooth X-Acto saw blade.  Since it's already wrapped, you should be OK with just cutting it.  If it were a bare blank I would recommend you wrap it with masking tape on either side of the cut first so it doesn't splinter. t^
