I dont own any high priced fishing gear.I like the fighting part of fishing. My two favorite rod/reel combo's that we have are..ugly stick usc 81170h, 17-25 pound line teamed up with a bait runner 6500 that i found in the trash...Great for jigging and eeling and bait fishing haven't tried it for fluke yet.
My second is a 6.6 ft. 5 star rod Tfsbc 661 mh teamed up with a Penn 190 sea-boy great for trolling, chunking and eeling a bit to heavy for fluke.
I have seen them st croix rods they are nice i even used a few nice and smooth....

om if you like the fighting part of fishing, you should look into good equipment. theres a reason why you pay more for some. i fished ugly sticks for a long time and the are a great all purpose rod. but put a quility graphite or lami in your hand and you can feel a world of difference . it really helps especially bottom fishing in deep water the sensitity is soo much better. you can feel everything if your kille farts you know it

St. Croix makes awesome stuff! I have several of the Avids, and a couple of Legends, which I love. t^
I don't have any of the Mojos. I'm sure there are terrific rods. I just don't dig the whole purple thing. :P

My gear,my old boat(sold her yes i regret it),my once first matie Michy look at our posts and Pictures....Cant get any better then we did...I,oops i mean WE dont need hundreds of dollars in gear its all about location location location Ill take a free rod and a reel from the trash against all the top brands....Fishing is fishing...Knowledge is what matters not your gear

Agreed having a $500 setup wont catch you more fish. But it sure feels better when you do. Like having a hyundai or a bentley you can take either to get you where you wanna go but it sure feels better in a bentley.
-
It does? fcp That settles it! Time to sell the Hyundai and get one of those Bentleys. Know where I can get one cheap? ;D

Ummm.........Like i said......It dont matter what you have as long as you take care of it........it will take care of you........My dad gave me a reel b 4 he died in 1988....i still use it today..... secretly...for good reason (my own reasons)(when I want)......it works as good as those 9,000,000,000,00 dollar reels....Ill bet a hand shake and a dollar bill i'll go fish for fish.....then some......with those old ass penns i gots............. >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D

yeah the purple thing is kind of wierd... that and im not sure about the split grip

I like St.Croix too. You can also have a custom rod built for you and it will probably be cheaper. I admit that I own both and use both of them all the time. t^

On a side note... When i first started saltwater fishing i started on a budget and bought several cheaper pieces of gear and i had several bad expierances with some including reels resulting in loss of fish... Sooo since purchasing a boat and my budget increasing i decided i would never loose a fish because of gear or feel unhappy using gear that wasnt fulfilling all of my needs for what i was doing. Not really about having the most expensive or fanciest gear. Just want to hook into that monster fish and never question my equitment. chrz

I'm a big fan of St. Croix also. I have several Premiers.
I have a mojo bass freshwater spinning rod. I've only used it a couple of times but it's a real nice rod. I plan to use it on some Lake Erie Smallies this spring.
As for expensive equipment. I think with all things iy gets to a point where it good enough. I don't mind paying 100.00 to 150.00 for a nice rod but after that I don't see the point.

St. Croix makes some really nice rods .One thing about a better rod is that it'll handle a heavy weight when the current starts to rip .You won't get beat up by trying to hold the rod in a faster current ,like you would with a lesser rod .Heavy-Fast is the rating I look for .Own and work with Shimano and St.Croix ,I like the St. Croix the best .
