Evening all...new here and to surf fishing. Have been an avid participant of fresh water fishing in the hills of Pa. but want to try the Jersey shore. Where can I find what runs when, what is the shortest pole I could sucessfully use? Probably will come up with a few more...thanks for any and all info!

Hi dagored53 welcome aboard,
Well right now everything has slowed for a while but that will change in a short period of time. You should be able to get away with a short pole if you don't mine a 2 piece rod. These roda will break down giving you an easier to carry version of a 7 or 8' pole.
You have come to the best place to find out what is running. The guys on here have the knowledge and the expertise so just keep on reading and absorbing everything you can ans get ready for some fun fishing the surf.
Things won't start popping till around the middle of May some where around mothers day. The blues will be around as they will follow the bait coming and going through the inlets.
Hope this helps.
Happy Catching
Paul

Welcome,, I think Jason or Chris will be able to give you some insight on the good beaches to fish and what weeks will produce some fish. You also might need to get a permit for the beach and register with the "National Saltwater Angler Registry" which is free to fish NJ Saltwater. www.countmyfish.noaa.gov or call 1-888-MRIP411
Hope this helps and enjoy this friendly websight!!
