I am getting ready to take the plunge on a new motor. Anybody want to talk me out buying a Mercury?
-
Not a outboard guy but those hondas look really nice... Good luck with whatever you choose TT^
-
But they are not 4 to 6 thousand bucks nicer.

Nice t^

Haha i would tend to agree the only reason i said hondas was because when i lived in Va beach there was a commercial crabber with a single honda 225 and he just put over 6 thousand hours on it and he did nothing but praised it

I have a 2007 115hp since new with no problems.
-
Won't try to talk you out of it--Not a Merc. guy-(love my e-tecs)
I think most engines now are built fine. what I would look at is where you are buying it and the service your going to get. When I was down in Mystic Is.(90 miles from by dock)late 2010--motors had about 68 hours on them and one had an alarm go off--(mine were purchased in PA.-The man from a dealer down there had it fixed in 3 hours-came to boat within 45 mins--was just a loose gas line sucking some air.
Good luck with whatever you buy t^

I hear great things about the E Tec's. I had them and they had great fuel efficiency.
If you go with the Merc's, verado is a better engine then the optimax.

there is a lot of good press about a new 150 mercury that just came out, check it out. with that being said, I think imports are better, last year on a 3 week cruise (asia) I thought all I would see were yamahas and suzukies, but they were mostly mercurys and evenrudes. go figure??
-
We service all makes of outboards. That being said, my 2002 Honda 90 has 500 hrs and other than doing the carbs once due to ethanol, its been normal maintainance only. Never been in for any warranty service. Many commercial guys due run Hondas as well as the CG. Gotta be a reason.

Honda did have a problem with some parts I believe only cause of what had happened in Japan but I have not has an issue with parts.
As mentioned, feel comfortable with your dealer.
