Just want to say Hi, I'm Dennis and recently my sons (13 & 16) and I (and wife) have doing some saltwater fishing. We have done head boats or charters while on are last few vacations, Florida keys and New Smyrna, and Myrtle Beach. We also tried pier fishing in Myrtle off of Apache pier.
We want to do some more saltwater fishing in Jersey so I will be here learning. I'm think surf fishing to start but also plan some boat trips. We have some surf pole and gathering info on what to use for bait lures etc and what to fish for when.
Thanks-
DB

Welcome Aboard Dennis and family,
Well you found the best site out there as we love to freely give out information especially to children and those that are new to the area. I am in Toms River and my primary fishing for 60 years now has been in Ocean County. My first preference would be Island Beach State Park as it offers the non beach buggie fisherman some pretty nice amenities. Plus there is about 10 miles of some of the best fishing up and down the east coast.
Let us know the area you will be using most and I am sure that the guys will fill you in soon.
Again welcome aboard.
Happy Catching
Paul

. We have the best charter and party boats in town as sponsors on this web sight. Take a peek at them for availability and pricing. Also Striped bass are being caught off the beaches from Raritan bay to Long Beach Island, even further too. Call some local tackle shops in the areas you want to fish for advice also you will get some great tips from our "From the surf" threads.

Thanks all for the welcome!!!
Hotrod, yes pictures will be posted.
Paul and BigAl, looking to start at IBSP, will start as walk on but probably get a permit at some point.
Any recomendations for tackle shops in that area? Also best time of day to go?
I also realised I should have put this in the new members thread area.

Grumpys and Betty & Nicks are both located in Seaside Park, within a mile of IBSP's entrance.
Welcome aboard. I fish IBSP mostly as well.

Joe, Great tips in that article, definitely need waders.
Al, We have surf poles, reels, some leaders (not what is recommended in the mentioned article) hooks (have to look what sizes), weights. Not sure on bait or lures yet. Additional items pliers, bucket, gloves, knife and cooler.
Fishin Dude, thanks for the reminder.

Good start, if yo plan on fishing bait off the beach go to home depot and buy a length of 1 1/2 inch pvc. cut (4) pieces @ 30" on an angle to use as sand spikes

Al, thanks for the reminder. My neighbor gave me one and I had some extra PVC and cut a couple more. Forgot I did that. Damm sucks getting old!! :)
