grtn Hey fellow fishermen!!! Here is my situation. Before I lost my dad we had a great Loranne system hooked up to our 18.5 ft Blue Fin. I will be honest in saying the last 2 seasons before he went to the big fish in the sky... I didn't maintain the boat as I should of, for example removing the fish finder during the winter. The glass broke, and water got all into it. So, now I am in the market for a new one...nothing fancy, just so I can mark some spots and such. I also would need advice on how to install it, I am pretty handy and learn quickly. TT^ Any guidance you guys can give me would be so appreciated! grtn Thanks!!!

I use a Garmin 441S w/the optional Blue Vision chart. It is a compact combo sonar/chartplotter. It has worked well for me. It didn't break the bank.

What you really need to do is set yourself a budget for what you need and go to all the companies websites and decide what is best for what type of boating/fishing you are doing.
They all have the manuals that you can download to see what you are getting.
Averyone is different and has different preferences.
The bottom line is what YOU like.
And what suits you the best and for your boat--go to a few places that have them set up and try them.
Then Call Matt--Task Marine --and see what he can do for you.

I had a Garmin all in one and currently have a raymarine mfd. comparing the two I would say the garmin was easier to use and I liked the features a little better.

Agreed Capt... I really didn't know where to start...I'm not good with the technical side of boating. I can change some fuses and oil filter, rofla but the FF that is another animal for me. THANK YOU EVERYONE for the suggestions and help. Once I do find one in my price range, Ill let everyone know what I go with and hopefully post a photo or two sooner than later! Here is my baby... hope to see/meet some you on the water this weekend! Ill keep Chanel 68 on for as long as I can stand the chatter fcp I like t listen to my tunes personally... or nothing at all... Thanks Capt!!!! She was my dads.... he took great care of her and I plan to do the same!!! Just put a fresh coat of beautiful top of the line green paint on the bottom. Friend of mine from work; her husband works for a company that handles the bottom paint and gave me a gallon as a gift. Didn't have to since I trailer everywhere, but I think its important to take care of it as best I can. Have a great weekend and you go get um too!!!! Tight lines Capt!!!!! slt
