As my post in discussions this is Dumb smk Stupid smk asinine smk Avoidable smk, tragic smk refering to the Sinking of a 34 foot Silverton in long island yesterday, just waiting for how it happened and the loss of 3 minors that had no control over the A- Holes that thought it was a good idea, what is the passenger capacity of that 34 footer I bet there were not enough PFDS on board, Bill

Bill to answer you question on boat capacity
25 foot boats and over really don't have the plate
PLEASE USE COMMON SENSE--When reading this!!!!
My 30 foot boat will figure 18 max--And if I were to put 18 people on-You can take me to that Marlboro Hospital ASAP.
Formula for 25 foot and under
Lenght times width divided by 15--With average weight of person @ 150 pounds.
So--30 foot boat with 10 beam--300 divided by 15 is 20 people--mine 30x9--18 people I would be nts nts nts nts

If COMMON sense was so COMMON I for one would be out of a job. I'd have no one to fly to the hospital any more.

Sorry Bud--Wish you were out of a job then grtn

The plate on my 25' Parker says 15 people capacity. The boat is 25' long x 9 1/2' wide. No way I would even attempt to put that many on and toss the lines off the dock. Heck, I wouldn't even put that many on at the dock. Just asking for trouble.
Very sad situation what happened in LI. Prayers to the family and friends of the victims.

It is what it is. People use "common sense" all the time with disasterous results. Believe me, common sense is not common. Unfortunatly, as in most cases when we use poor judgement the results are poor. I'm not in any way indicating I like these events. Believe me when I say I wish people would put me out of business. Due diligence, proper planning, and staying withing your comfort/experience level helps prevents issues like this.
On a side not, IKAT makes a good point. A boat plate lists a person as 150#. It all comes down to gross weight - not # of people.

so I count as 1 1/2 people fcp
