So, before my bluefishing trip on Sunday night I loaded up and left 2 commercial pots off the bow of my boat. Both traps were loaded with bunker (2 or 3 peices each). The intent was to get there again Tuesday and pull them before fishing. Since I got sick I wasn't able to get them. I am planning on getting there Friday AM.
So, should I prepare for a Dangerous Catch episodes with crabs riding the pots or more likely a load of dead crabs in the pots?

Thell be alive there wont be any remains of the bunker though, wouldnt wit too much longer to go get them though t^
-
Well abetting sick and working will do that from time to time.
If I had been a little coherent I would've said Deadliest Catch and not Dangerous Catch. rgmn

I knew what you meant i speak fluent --------- TT^

Abetting!?? Damn spell check!

Lets see some pics of the pots when they come up! Fingers crossed for a full load! t^

you might have dead crabs. When the bait runs out, they will eat each other, especially since it's molting season. A lot of soft shells.

1 crab. No bait. Can they escape?
-
Can they escape?
if they are smarter than the average crab, perhaps. not likely
-
some can escape... check for hold in the net. most likely they got stolen..
-
I hope they weren't stolen. They were tied to the bow of my boat @ my slip.
-
some times they can get out. and sometimes am eel gets in there and eats all the bait before the crabs do.

The place that I am docked I hear stories of killes traps and nets being taken, it stinks! Was the bait nice and tight that it didn't fall off? I hope what ever happened it doesn't again. :-\

I think I actually like that idea, being the victim of having my killie pot cleaned out before.

Some old timers at my marina have been complaining about Killie pot thieves :P

But you are all going about this the wrong way
1-for crab pots--Leave a sign on them --FREE CRABS-PULL AT YOUR OWN RISK. t^

What i do... go to a hardware store and buy very small mesh. Cut and mold into the bait holder.. This will make the holes smaller and the crabs will not be able to eat the bait at all, but by the time they find out, its too late. At this point, the crabs move to the top of the net and others will enter because all the bait is untouched. This will also keep the eels and any other fish from eating the bait. your catch will triple in quantity..
