Title: Did Some Reel Maintenance
Post by: Reel Time on September 04, 2012, 08:40:52 PM
With this wonderful weather I decided to get some reel maintenance out of the way,,,

Penn 9/0,, like new inside, upgraded drags already installed, cleaned up and lubed

Diawa 900H,, like new inside, old school asbestos drags, cleaned up and lubed. drag upgrade on the todo list

TLD 25,, like new inside, all bearings where pretty much bone dry!! got lucky with no rust evident,, cleaned and lubed it up. drag upgrade on the todo list

TLD 20,, like new inside,, these bearings weren't dry, but not to darn far off from it though,, cleaned up and lubed. drag upgrade on the todo list

Think I've read somewhere about the tld's manufactured in malaysia being common to be light in grease, if any. Both of mine are malaysia built,,, but all squared away now.

Good idea getting some things done now.
I usually wait for the winter and break open a bottle of scotch.
After a few drinks ,the reels get easier and easier.
I now have a bag of extra parts. fcp

All kidding aside,it is a great idea to do it yourself and money savings too.I use  Blue Greese and replace the the drags. t^

TT^ Good job!!! Funny, I have to shakespears and a few spinners that I need to learn how to fix up. My dad gave them to me and 'someone else' just gave me some sweet poles to use. I may be asking for some help on 'how to' Sounds like you know what your doing!

Nice work RT.. Thats I job I do reluctantly in the off season.. my Mr. Magoo eyesight and sausage-fingers are a bad combo for the fine work.. Last time I did my Penn 3/0 I wisely had 6 anti-reverse springs on hand..knowing how they tend to fly out into the  Ionosphere .. was down to my last one by the time I got it back together  hhppy Luckily,  I later found 4 of the lost springs stuck in my beard...  but it really does extend the life of the reels..  t^  chrz  chrz

Tons of info to be had here. It's where I go and read everything over before starting to tear everything apart.

Sweet thanks!!!! I used to watch my dad but I really cant remember and so seriously dont want to mess them up... like I said he gave me for the most part all my gear, including the boat, so I try to do everything right the first time if I can.

I know how you feel Mark for me its a Lighted Magnifiing glass and tweezers  ;D A White Terry Towel works wonders for catching those Dog Springs and other small screws before they roll into your beard and make it a white one it's easier to find the parts on  TT^
