Title: 2013 Offshore Tuna trip
Post by: Still Running on October 10, 2012, 08:20:35 PM
As of now the 2013 offshore tuna trip will be on the Doris Mae IV

http://www.dorismae.com

The date is October 19th return October 20th
I think that is a better date, since the reports have been getting better after our trip this year.

The trip will be a 22 hour trip

We will have 24 anglers on board and the boat has bunks for all.
If you can not make this date, please let me know so I can remove you from the list and move the next person up. If you are not sure if the date is good for you, you will have some time to change your mind.
I will book the date with the boat the first week of January and once I do that, they will give me till March to send the deposit in.

As of today the price is $325.00 per person. This price could change a little, depending if diesel fuel price goes up too much. I am betting the price of fuel will go up, so plan on a little more then the $325.00. And no I don’t know how much that will be.
The price does not include a tip for the mates, so keep that in mind.

Payments:

Your first payment of $100.00 is due by March 15th
Second payment of $100.00 is due by May 31st
The balance is due September 16th. By then we should know the price if they have to charge us extra due to fuel prices.

I will accept payments the same as last year and I will set up a PayPal payment. If you decide to use the PayPal method, you will have to pay to charges for that.

If you have to cancel once you have made a payment, I will not refund your money. I will try to help you fill your spot and get that person to send you the money that you paid. I have enough to keep track of, so that’s the way it will be done.

The Doris Mae will supply all Rods (if needed), bait, tackle and coffee at no charge. They prefer you use there hooks and leaders.

I am told this boat is faster then the last years boat we were on, but keep in mind that all depends how far we have to go.

I did ask the Captains wife about the drinking and she told me no way can you drink.
That is up to you if that makes a difference to you. I am also told by guys who have fished this boat that it’s not a big deal if you have a few as long as you don’t get stupid.
You make the call, I told you.

The rest of the rules are the same.
No braided fishing line on your chunking rod unless you have a 200’ top shot.
Tile, Squid, Mahi and jigging rods can have braid line, but must stay clear of others.

Rick:

If you want I have an online registration system that I use for my business. I can make an event for us that is hidden to only invited individuals. People can pay via credit card. It tracks EVERYTHING, emails can be sent through it and there is some other cool functionality including attendee reports, etc. I would have no problem setting it up for you. The only thing is there is it costs me $3.99/person + a small percentage (3.99% I think) for the processing of the credit cards. This fee can automatically be included in the 'registration' cost.

If you're interested let me know. I think this might be the simplest way to go for you.

Thoughts?

No problem. There is also a way to track check payments and partial payments are able to be made as well. As we get closer if you're interested I can always work with you to make the registration form and you can play with it to see if you want to use it or not.

Wow the post is up only 24 hours and most of this years crew is back.  t^

I spoke with two boats today to see if we can get speed and a few more on the boat. Both boats are faster. 1 can take up to 35 with only 16 bunks. I think 35 is too many to fish one side of the boat. The other boat can take 22 with no bunks.

Still working on it.

I can squeeze a total of 5, including me. We'd be there in 30 minutes. Just need to learn how to fast rope down to whatever boat the slow pokes are on.

OK Folks,

I found a boat that can do 26 people. Everyone gets a bunk.

The cons are:

They only will be doing 30 hour trips next year. Leave 7am, back to dock between 12 and 2 pm the next day.

Only going Tues, Thurs and Sat.
So it would a Saturday 7am sail, return Sunday.

Would have to give them $4000.00 to hold the date. Thats $155.00 per person as soon as we pick a date.

The Pro's

4 hour to the fishing grounds.

Fish sundown and sun up.

More rail time

and... did I say 4 hour ride?

What does everyone think?

Leaving that early do they troll at all or pot hop for mahi  or drift for tiles (Kenny Requested to do that) before setting up for the night?......

I'd like to give the tiles a try or mahi what ever the case may be, getting out there early gives us more options...normally the tuna bite that time of the year is between dusk and sunrise... I love the fact that we'd be getting out there much earlier and have more rail time...definitely willing to pony up the extra money for that  t^

Actually I'm just kidding about that.  She really doesn't mind when I get a chance to go fishing.  And she was the one who encouraged me to go on the Sea Devil trip.

Guess I got a good one. ;DSeptember

Sounds amazing!!! Any day and time will work for me.....4 hrs to a spot for fishing is great! If there is a spot open, and I can go, let me know where and when to send deposit.  clp Its a year away and I'm already syked! I am I am I am!!!!

Soup does not belong on a boat! We all know that.

I don't even want to ask that question, might lose my bunk before I get on the boat.

I'm almost positive everyone knows this....and it was posted in the last thread from the 2012 offshore trip....I'm pretty sure the beer thing is a legality thing (if thats makes sense???).

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe not...but dont read too much into a boats policy when booking.  "no hard liquor, 6 pack per person" etc...   bring ya want, have what ya want (bring whats legal...OBVIOUSLY)  just  dont turn into the drunk douche that ruins a trip.

That being said, the last trip amazed me. You boys can pound!

Saw this report from the D.M. Looks like good fishing.....but seems they got out there a little late for being the "1st Boat to the grounds"
Maybe their charter times are a lot different?

Took the ride out on the Doris Mae on Sat for a canyon trip. Arrived at the canyon at about 11pm. The first fish were boated within the first hour and a half of fishing, and a fairly steady pick continued throughout the night with a few flurries of multiple hookups. I boated my first yellowfin (55-60lbs) at around 3am. We had another flurry right around first light, and a few albacore came over the rail on jigs after sunrise. I dropped down to 50lb leader and boated a 70lb yellowfin (last of the trip) at around 8:30am. The boat had about 30-35 yellowfin, 2 albacore, one dolphin, and a 70-80lb swordfish. All in all a good trip with a fantastic crew.

Seems you spend 1/2 a day traveling so it certainly gives you some time to fish.

I do have to keep in the back of my head that we were spoiled by the weather on the last trip. 80 degrees and flat seas all night.

Does he only do 48s on the weekend and 30s on the weekdays?

A 48 hour trip has a lot to offer. Aside from a fast boat, the longer trip greatly increases the range the Captain has to run to the hottest spots at the time.
That would for give us 2 night chunks, and daytime drifting for Tiles or pot hopping for Mahi I would hope. Sounds great to me. TT^

Just keep in mind you are only allowed to return with a one day limit. Can't say it was a two day trip and keep twice as many fish.  :P

My thought on this 48 hour trip would be cool, but
You will have to sleep at sometime and your paying to sleep
The chance of two days like the day we had weather wise is slim, so if someone gets even a little sick it would be hell for them.
I don’t know what time the boat leaves, but lets say it goes out and 7 pm Friday night. That means your back 7pm Sunday night. That’s gets most of you to bed by 9 and have to go to work on Monday.

I personally would like to do a 30 hour trip. I am waiting to hear from two other boats and then I will let you know our best options.

Most of the boats do a 22 hour trip on Friday to Monday and do the 30 hour trips during the week.
I am sure most of us don’t want to take off  two weekdays for the trip.

I just put the 48 hour trip up incase most of you wanted do it.
If that what most want to do, that’s fine, I will give over all of the info to someone who wants to take over. I don’t want to do the trip and its no big deal to me if that’s what most want.

Just let me know.

If we get a fast enuf boat...a 22 hr trip is ok.....even if we can leave dock at 4 pm....on a 4-5 hr ride....set up by 8 or 9 pm....fish till 8 -9 am....back by 2 p.m.

Agreed.

How about some baby steps?  Alot guys were first timers this year, and that weather we had was def the exception NOT the rule.

Try the same 22-24 hr trip next year on a faster boat and see how it goes...faster boat will give us the mahi pot hopping in the am option instead of heading to the barn at 8am.

Move up to a 30 hour the following year...then a 2 day.

Good stuff ya got going here Rick, it could be a annual trip that goes on for years.....

I don't think I've seen many days that calm on the bay, much less 85 miles out.  That's the key here.  Think about the ride in, now think about that for 48 hours.  That's probably more the reality.
