Tonight seems to be the first where the temperatures are going below 40.......What this means to the back bay fisherman is the shallow waters are going to cool fast and on a drop tide will force the bait to move into deep water.
All the sedge banks that have those small little cuts that fill with water at high tide......The out going tide and cool surface water will trigger the first run of bait from the shallow waters.
The kayak fisherman can work the small mouths of those cuts using small plastic baits or rubber baits with some good results..... I would stay small right now with what you offer..... The bigger bait fish don't seem to start moving until the water gets colder in November.
The Bass are smarter then what you think.....They will line up like a buffet and pick off what ever swims past.
The bays are loaded with sedge grass and they all offer small cuts to fish......Spearing,mullet,peanut bunker and the list goes on......Cant hide from a Bass, Bluefish or Weakfish.......
Its time to get off the sofa and start fishing........... Happy Fishing

Well I was talked into fishing from a boat and not my kayak Saturday night..... So we met around 8:00 pm just as the tide started to drop....... Are plan was to fish some areas of the manasquan river that have been holding some nice size bass.
We left the dock and had bass blowing up under the lights right from the start....The tide was running hard which made keeping the boat where you wanted it.
We set up under the bridge and started fishing with sibiki rigs to get some live shad..... We needed 5-8 oz to get those bad boys down to the feeding zone.
We had Bass up to 25 pounds all on live shad......We also had bluefish in the 6-8 pound class.......
The back waters a just loaded with bait and those bass are feeding heavy on what swims past....
I will be fishing with the Yak on Tuesday and Wednesday nights So I will post this weekend how I made out.......

Be careful if you plan to kayak the same area. I am not preaching to you, ;) you have experience but may need a reminder. slt
