I needed to take today off from work so last night was the best chance to get out on the water and do some back bay kayak fishing.......
What made last night the best night of bass fishing I ever had was that I must have caught over 50 bass maybe more...... In about 2 hours of fishing.
What even made this trip that much better was that each and every fish was under 15 inches and some being even smaller.......These small baby Striped Bass had been feeding on some small spearing in the back bay....... I had the fishing blowing up all around the kayak for all of the time I was fishing last night......It was and all out bass blitz.
There was a point that with each and every cast made was a striped bass under the 15 inch mark....
The big question I have..... Is did these small striped bass swim in the bay from someplace or are the striped bass starting to make a come back in our local waters of new jersey.
I had like 5 striped bass that if they where 8 inches it was pushing it....... There are snappers Blues in the bay that are bigger then these little guys.
Again for a back bay fisherman its a happy day when your catching what may be your next 40 pound striped bass...... All the fish where very clean looking and in great condition. Last night was worth every second of being on the water.
Happy Fishing t^

I share your thoughts about baby bass and I believe there is growth in bass spawning in our local watershed. I have caught many tiny bass way in the back from BI down through LEH. I believe we have a strong spawn in the Mullica and GEH rivers (maybe Manasquan and Toms River too?) and these youngins travel up the estuary, where there is always an abundant supply of food for them. With that said, I have caught lots of <10" bass in the surf as well though I doubt the surf dinks have the energy to migrate far.
Glad you got into a bunch of fish clp

I've been having the same experience with the little guys in the back. Don't let your guard down though cause there are some 30" class fish in the mix too.

Was back out on the water last night for just a couple hours.....The first problem was I had no real wind to work with......Second the tide was running so much slower then the night before.
Around midnight the South West wind started to pick up and put a nice little chop on the water.....And that's all I needed to get the bass to become active and start feeding...... Didn't do anything close to like the night before.....But still had a good amount of small fish to have fun with.
Happy Fishing t^

Thank's everyone...... This is one of those years that will go down in my book as being a very productive season in the back bay waters.
Its been years since I have seen this much bait like peanut Bunker,Spearing,Finger Mullet and Shad in the back waters.....Also there is ton's of baby Striped Bass and Weakfish that have not been seen like this in past years.
They say all things change every 10-20 years......Maybe this is a sign of some of those changes.......Because I sure have not seen anything like this in all my years of fishing these waters.
