Ok, this may be a dumb question, but my saltwater fishing is almost exclusively inshore and bay. What is considered offshore?
Manasquan Ridge? Mud Hole? Canyon? How far off is offshore? 20 knots?
The reason I ask is because I was hoping to get on a party boat for blues on Wednesday and I'd rather be fighting fish than trying to keep my balance. Your forecast looks bad, but the one from Weather Underground looks much nicer:
Forecast as of 3:08 PM EDT on September 9, 2007
Coastal Waters From Sandy Hook To Manasquan Inlet Nj Out 20 Nm-
Coastal Waters From Manasquan Inlet To Little Egg Inlet Nj Out 20 Nm-
Tonight
E winds around 10 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft.
Mon
NE winds around 10 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft. A chance of showers.
Mon Night
S winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft. A chance of showers.
Tue
S winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft. A chance of showers and tstms.
Tue Night
SW winds around 10 kt...becoming NW after midnight. Seas 2 to 4 ft. A chance of showers in the evening.
Wed
NW winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft.
Wed Night
NE winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft.
I guess my ultimate question is, (as The Clash once said) "Should I stay or should I go?"5hrug
What would you do?
Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bucktail,
As a general rule, NOAA regards 20 miles as the inshore/offshore line.
If the fleets are fishing the Mudhole, you are on the ambiguous line (in my opinion).
The Manasquan Ridge is definitely inshore from Manasquan Inlet.
The offshore is being influenced by the storm veering off of North Carolina. The waves will be felt inshore, but not as prominently as offshore.
I have a better suggestion. There is no need to run to the Mudhole for blues. They are all over the place from Long Branch North.
If you want false albacore with blues, they are off of Lavallette/Ortley Beach right now.
Good luck,
Capt. Ed
PS: Even if you use the current inshore forecast, 10-15 mph NW winds will make it uncomfortable out there in a smaller boat ...
TUE NIGHT
SW WINDS AROUND 10 KT...BECOMING NW AFTER MIDNIGHT.

WED
NW WINDS 10 TO 15 KT. SEAS 2 TO 4 FT.
WED NIGHT
NE WINDS 5 TO 10 KT. SEAS 2 TO 3 FT.
