Wet newspaper and put them in the vegetable draw of the fridge. Blue crabs are pretty hardy.

I like using frozen Gatorade bottles or similar filled with water. Place in cooler with wet rag or paper. Keep cooler out of full sun. t^

Why not. as long as there fresh and not stinking. Used Frozen Blue Crabs with top shell removed cut in 1/4s many times. No problem even for Stripers frozen Thawed top shell removed fished whole. And you will find them in Say Shoprite and some other markets Frozen top shell removed.$$$$. Bill

Keep them in your front pocket and repeat "here here crab, no need to fear, please come back to life again". It usually works.

Best bait ever for Blackfish is the SAND FLEA......You can find all you want along the surf just above the high water line.

Never saw them come cold fall winter water water :headscra:

Bummer... better luck next trip. I hear the bite has been slow, but I sure would like to get out no doubt.
I personally dont eat the sand sharks; but I am sure some do. slt

The ones with the spines in front of there dorsal fin are "endangered"
-
Trish they are good eating, over seas its Fish and chips. For years cosidered Trash Fish, as many of what are now caught do to lack of other fish, Problem being they have to be Skined, Blead, cleaned and Iced done very soon after catching, The ones caught in Cold water are best. If not Taken care of right away Ammonia builds in the flesh and they are then trash. Don't confuse them with sand Sharks. msfsh

actually Sand Sharks and dog fish are the same thing from what I remember..
-
you have smooth dogfish and spiny dogfish. The people in NJ call the smooth dogfish a sandshark, but the spiny dogfish, they just call them dogfish.

When I spent the night in NY at my friends house they put that movie on. It was crazy Bill, I was like "wuuuuuuut the.... hahaha The last time I asked on here what a 'dog fish' was I was told it was a sand shark, 5hrug Nick, the spinney sand sharks are infact called 'dog fish' and the smooth ones, just sand sharks?
Al, do we catch those in RB? I def have pulled in my share of 'them' in either way :) but it would be nice to know if there was a difference AND now that I know one is endangered, I def want to be careful with my release. NOT that I bang a non endangered one around lol just saying. t^

Yes in a lot of places especially the UK.

That was sarcastic. Spiny dogs are over abundant. Junk science from fisheries managers says otherwise which is why their commercial harvest is over restricted. Also, they eat EVERYTHING in their path...juvi sea bass and tog included

You usually won't see smooth dogfish once the temps start to drop and they are usually inshore. Spinys are cool water fish. Spinys will hurt you you with teeth or the two dorsal spines. The worst a smooth can do is give you a scrape on your forearm when they wriggle their tale against you. I always referred to brown sharks as sand sharks, not either of the dogfish but you can call em what you want
-
Yeah trish we do get the smooth dogs in RB. The spineys rarely but just a few miles out. The are sometimes referred to as sand sharks, but the really aren't but then if you look up sand shark theres a list of fish that are considered sand sharks 5hrug Dont worry about carefully releasing them, they are indestructible like a salt water snake head
-
thanks for the info guys and the spiney dogfish are endangered ?
