Title: Boating Hazards In the Raritan bay and area
Post by: overbite on January 22, 2013, 09:01:37 AM
Left Hazlet and went to see if Belford sea food was open. There I met a diver getting ready to dive cleaning Lines ( Rope )and Nets from Wheels
( props ) on the Comercial fishing boat docked there. He said its a ongoing problem, with it and damaged Props. And whats called POGOS. Floatsem that floats up and down in and out o site. Like the wood back when they burned docks off shore on barges. and pushed it off into the water  smk. But now Peirs have broken up again putting Poogos back in the waters, Beware. Bill

Sorry for the late question...I really don't know where I have been or what I have been doing to be honest!  :P Any whoooooooo, my question is, doesn't someone dredge the channels and areas that stuff may have been at one time? Like around where the pier and the light house used to be?

The Army Marine Enginers are the keepers of all shipping channels and inland water way channels, Inlets.
They are careed for on regular intervals or as needed. Any other channels On request. such as Rivers and bays. Marinas are responsible for their own. The Coast Guard is resposible for Navagation Markers ( Bouys ) and lights. bells and whistles, The Black SQ. or Red Triangle channel stick markers are boyth privite and Gov. Never to be Trusted.

Eii Yii Yii  thud...I thought I knew that bay well. Now I will have to be even more careful while on the water. My dad taught me the right way to do things and how to handle my boat, so Im thinking I will be ok.  Thanks to my Bubbala Treebeard I hope I will be better now then ever now that I have a F.F.  :-* Ok Bill so with all that, does that mean that there IS someone that will or has been and will continue to keep those areas as best they can free of the debris? I mean of course one can only do so much, but my bottom line is that SOMEONE is doing something right? The stuff you talk about, POGOS, that sounds scary, like before you can navigate you have hit something.  :-\

Mrs. Fish most will never be removed or even found. The dangers Lys when you leave a channel and drift or travel accross a area that was once some what clear now may hide who knows what. The pogos I mentioned most come from Piers broken up the bases of them are water logged so that part sinks and the rest Bobs up and down. They were bad when they tore up old piers in NY harbor The wood was taken off shore and Burned  thud fcp smk fngr. much would just fall overboard and unburnt stuff dumped. What were they thinking  nts Now that ocean dummping is  banned  :headscra: along comes Sandy to start the prosses all over. Just tail gate another boat bigger then you so they clear or hit it before you cfzd Bill

bubala  193 up, 53 down
A Yiddish(Jewish) word, traditionally used by Grandmothers, that references children. The modern usage of the word can be extended to any person that is considered darling and close to one's heart. One could go as far as to interchange the word "bubala" for any pet name (i.e.: "Dear", "Darling", "Honey", "Sweetness and Light", "Love Muffin", "Lover", "Snookums", "Baby", "Hot pants", "Boo", "Philly Buns", "Sweet Cheeks", "Mammacita", "Suga'", etc).
"Bubala, I couldn't imagine living without you...you're the best."
"Come here, Bubala, and give Cricket some suga'!"

OH Mark... ;D

hhppy clp Philly Cheeze Steak would be more accurate..   My grandma was'nt yiddish.. so I guess what she called me was the Sicilian equivalent of Bubala..  She pronounced it " Azzahola"   ::)  But Fishy can call me whatever she wants..   msfsh   Now ..lets get this thread back  on track .. Try not to bump into anything out there!   TT^   chrz  chrz

Hey azzahola, there are definitely, things out there, theres about 13 homes that vanished without a trace from an area right of your marina (facing shore). There has to be thousands of buckets coolers lawn ornaments out there as well. Rail road ties and landscape timbers are out there. Be very careful after a Moon tide as some things will be picked up from the shore lines and add extras t^

msfsh You always have a way to bring sun shine to a post. As far as The Raritan Bay goes. Fishing will be fishing catching will be catching, The fish will be there they do not read the News. even tho they are in school ( I Like that one ) Drift fishing will be interesting,  Last season some bait fish were at low levels as Peanut Bunker. Mullet ,spearing. so it depends on what the survival rate will be some spawned before some to come. It will be intersting to see the out come on Stripers. Winter Flounder, that winter there. From what I saw in Belford Last week The Crab Draggers are doing OK. And no shotage of other winter fish caught out front. Even a bunch Of very large Fluke ( Summer Flounder )they had on Ice.
I wold not worry that much something is always available.
For Me It will still be Catch and Release in The Bay Shore and area.  msfsh msfsh slt t^ Bill
