Post by: Pfishingruven on January 28, 2013, 11:09:07 AM
Excellent article.  Most of these lures are not just limited to surf fishing, either!

That Atom Striper Swiper looks like mine all beat up but still brings home the catch.  If all else fails tie one of these guys on and hold on.

Happy Catching

I was surprised to see my favorite lure in there...the Gibbs Casting Swimmer!

I have a good amount of the top 25 and none of them surprise me!  Just need to use them more often :P!!

Al, the Bomber was #2.  And I agree with you about the AVA.

One I might add would be the Hopkins No=Eql.

Another I would definitely add is the 6" white Mr. Twister tail. t^

And speaking of Mr. Twister would there even be a Storm Wildeye Shad without the original Sassy Shad? :headscra:  Don't get me wrong, I love the Storm and Tsunami shad baits, but I think we need to give credit where credit is due.

I saw that Bob but thats Black which works great, however I have had great success with the school bus scheme. They were pretty specific on colors.

I catch most of my stripers using a n  AVA w/ a green tube in the fall - when sand eels are present and a black pencil poppper at night.  Those two are my favorites.

Actually, it just says Bomber Long A, although  it gives the example of Nick Gibbs catching a 58 pounder on a black one.

I do agree with you on the school bus though.  clp  The school bus color (AKA YBS or yellow baby striper), chicken scratch (AKA pearl yellow) and black (AKA black  ;D)have undoubtedly been the three most popular colors, at least in our area, over the past 30 years. t^

Nice article ! I'll have to agree on the green tail ava for my home surf needs to be added especially for the fall run in NJ. There's all kinds of metal lures that have worked for me, t-hex,deadly dick, hopkins, castmaster and tin squid to name a few. Also all the rubber stuff, way too many here but a few are the tsunami, vision sand eels, hogy, bass assasin and fin-s. Not to be forgotten is the custom made special the weighted snag rig,my favorite  ;D

My 3 with a old standby,

Wheres the Lures :headscra: nts

Lure Some thing you put on a hook To lure or attract a Fish to Take the Bait.               If you take away bait and a so called lure and replace it with a attractor what would it be or called. Dynamite  5hrug
Lure Some thing you spray on your boot to attract a deer.
Lure a attractant to Lure what ever you want to Lure.
Last Call at a Bar to Lure someone into seeing what is Not True but who cares.
A lure is what you want it to be.

And On and On.
