So here's what I've been up to this winter.. The last couple times out with Capt Carl this past fall, we discussed building him a few new rods for the upcoming season, as well as fixing up a couple of his older sticks..
Tackled the repairs first.. not sure what happened to the finish on this pink rod.. I've heard some brands (like Flex-coat) will yellow.. these where pretty muddy:

Also may have been caused by water intrusion...notice the corrosion on the guides..and the underwraps seemed devoid of any finish... I've taken to applying a thin coat to my unders before wrapping the guides.. hopefully more waterproof.. makes wrapping guides easier too..

After: Punched up the pink a little ;D msfsh msfsh

After the warmup came the real work.. Carl wanted 3 all-around inshore conventionals and 1 lighter spinning.. After kicking it around some, for the conventionals we decided on the Seeker Hercules Inshore light.. just a great 15-30 lb blank. .. nice tip with tons of power down low.. and a tough composite to hold up to charter duties.. For the spinner, I had a sweet 12-20# ish blank (Batson maybe.. i forgot ::) ) kicking around.. the plan for that was to try out the new Microwave guide system.. Overall look we where going for was a purple/blue to match the Wet Dreams logo...
Here's the parts pile TT^

Lots of grips to make..stack and glue phase- Went with blue/red Burl cork rings to try and match the purple theme..

Almost ready to turn.. Went with #18 aluminum seats and matching gimbals on the Seekers... the spinning rod got a matching MH project-X seat.

Turning and shaping.. Figured out by rigging my shop vac behind the lathe I could save myself some sweeping later :

Jazzed them up a bit with some Abalone..

Finally, Spiral wrapped the Seekers with 9 Amtak Virtus Lite guides each.. went with an ice blue metallic for the overs.. think we matched the logo colors pretty good.. ..I'm glad I did'nt run out as 1/2 way though I realized it was Gudebrod thread.. hence out of biz! fcp but we made it.. Wrapping the spinner with the Micowave guide set.. especially the tiny running guides had me inventing new obscenities due to my sausage fingers.. But they went on, and the thing really seems to cast great.. and the guides add 0 weight...should be a sick fluke bucktailer.. that one may be hard to part with rofla
So.. Here's the set.. Hop on with Capt. Carl this year and test'em out and let me know what ya's think! chrz chrz
