Title: steering
Post by: hiking on March 26, 2013, 03:28:10 PM
It's really not that important, but It has been bugging me. a few of my boating friends don't have a answer.  Why do cc steer from the left and most other boats steer from the right?

Just an assumption on my part.

Rules of the road dictate that the vessel to your starboard has the right of way. Therefore, you would want the better line of vision on that side so you could readily see any vessel that you have to steer clear of.

It wouldn't really matter on a center console what side the steering was on as the visibility is 360 degrees. And the steering on a center console is generally more toward the middle of the vessel than the port.

My steering is on the left but probably no more than 12" off center. Like Joe said visibility is 360.
