Hiya Gang.. Just figured I take a minute to let ya's know what I been up to lately.. I've had my tin boat, Clamenza slipped in the back of the Rondout creek near Kingston for a couple weeks now.. with the new herring regs, I chose to keep it in back where I can easily jig up herring.. even though its a longer no-wake run out to the main river, I have been able to make all the bait I need in a few minutes as the herring are really stacked now.... Been fishing mostly nights, chunking and fishing livies.. Have had a few fish most nights, although no real big ones yet.. only to about 25lbs.. In the last couple days a large push of fish started to come through.. Snuck out of work early yesterday afternoon and found them in droves about 5-6 miles south of Kingston... They seem to be getting close to spawning mode, so are prone to lockjaw.. Had a hard time getting them to eat either live herring or chunks, so I got on my horse and started to troll plugs.. which worked very well.. I believe it is more of an aggression strike on the plugs when they are in love like this... ;D whatever the reason, they chewed the plastic pretty good, albeit mostly smaller bucks.. trolling 1 rod I hooked about 10-15 in a couple hours to about the mid teens.. sorry there are not more pics and they are kinda lousy.. but I've been fishing alone, mostly in the dark, and the rain.. so the camera/phone stays buried in the bag.. anyhow, this fishing should hold up for at least another week or 2, so if anyone is considering a pilgrimage north, now is the time.. If any of the njswf faithful want to make the trip and need some intel, hit me with a PM and I'll try to steer ya in the right direction.. now.. bring on the FLUKES!! msfsh msfsh chrz chrz
Hot plug Du Jour: 4.75" blue/chart Reef Runner.. plug will dig bottom to 25' easy on braid.. but can be touchy to tune..
