The Kayak has somewhat of a advantage while your on the hunt for some early season monster Fluke..... The back bay waters are holding some of the seasons best Fluke and we are talking big....Very big in the 5-8 pound range and Bigger.
The kayak has the advantage of getting into some shallow water and to find those small creeks in the marsh areas....We also can get into areas with docked boats and work are baits better on those drop offs better.
The Inlets right now are holding some good size Fluke.....The advantage Of the kayak is you don't need to fish the main channels where the boat traffic is.....Stay clear and work the drop off and the shallow water.....Find areas where you have good moving water.....Big Fluke love to moving water.
I would use the large Mullet Gulp in white or pink set up on a high-low rig....Use a 1/2 - 3/4 oz bucktail as your weight.....Then 12" above use a 4/0 hook with your Gulp.
Keep in mind your fishing for the big Fluke.....Not the small throw backs....Monster Fluke are looking for a meal not a snack.
Stop reading and get into some of the seasons best Fluke fishing we have using the kayak....

Well i am going to give it a shot and go Fluke fishing from the kayak t^, going down by leanardo. goin to find me a meal. taking a half day of work. will post any pictures if i take any.

Thank's Dale and Chris.....The picture in my profile was the last picture of me ever to be taken and that was back in 2009.....I refuse to go kayaking with anything that can take a picture or that has a flash.
I will only keep maybe 1 or 2 fish a year so for the most part its all catch an release for me and that goes for all fish....Plus its hard to take a picture of yourself holding a fish....on a kayak.
Sorry team....No pictures....But a lot of great information to help you catch more fish from a kayak.

Well i did it, i went fishing from my kayak on the bay, i launched from Leanardo. the drift was pushing me toward the pier so i had to paddle a bit so i could drift a while, strong wind made the drift quick, drift sock slowed that down for me.
Had no hits drifting across the channel using a buck tail with gulp tail & and a drop loop. cfzd WOW did i see alot of fish just swimming around on the surface. so i changed up and went after the fish i could see on top, STRIPER a little guy but great fight from kayak. then i ooked toward the pier and i realised there are guys standing where i am fishing water depth was 4 feet. so i went out farther and then it happend the water went on FIRE clp Bunker everywhere, so i changed lure and i was in the middle of a blitzzzz. caught 3 blue fish two smaller one and one big one about 15 lb. I had to throw the anchor over for he was dragging me close to the pier. i gut the blues over the water but that does not help. it looked like some one got murderd on the yak, leason is dont keep bluefish...
So i will try again for fluke, anyone want to tell me why i did not get any hits at all for fluke?
I want to try the back water just have not found away to get in there yet, GOOGLE EARTH.

I am beyond HOOKED, I called three friends today and told them go buy a used Kayak so they too can enjoy fishing like i now do.
The one thing that was really nice was when no one was around i could see the fish swell up to the surface and then go down, a couple of times i was able to see Bass just swimming below the surface.
i dont think i will ever forget my first salt water adventure on my yak.
To some it all up i am HOOKED. slt t^

That's cool Dale. Now all I have to do is get all this stuff out of the way so I can enjoy my kayak. I will be up in Sayerville Sat for a Confirmation and the wife wants to get the yard work done on Sunday so maybe in the late afternoon we might hit IBSP. I hope...

Dale, some good spots in Raritan bay to launch from too. Keyport, Laurence Harbor beach rt 35. You can get up into the creeks too.

I was looking at that today, a good person from this site h
Gave me some great ideas and tools that are at my disposal.
The only one issue I have is my fish finder, sonar etc.
When I first turn It on it is great but after a bit it goes to depths that are not true, I think it might be because of air under yak?
My yak has a baffle system under it like a tri hull almost. So I put the transducer in the lowest spot possible and below me so this way I think it is in water under neath. I used Duct seal to hold it in place and so it won't move. But I might go with the epoxy and see if that is better. I know look out for air bubbles. I know of one trick to get the bubbles out, a nice person told me that too.
So I am open to suggestions,
