Title: NJ Fishing & Boating Weather Outlook: Weekend Edition June 1-2, 2013

The first weekend of June will start off nice and end rainy with a chance of thunderstorms.  Saturday will be dry, sunny, hot and likely humid with clouds increasing later in the day.  Highs will be in the upper 80's (lower to the north and along/on the water) with lows in the mid 60's.  Sunday will bring a chance of rain and thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon through the later evening.  Some of these storms could be strong to severe.  Highs will be in the mid 80's and lows in the mid 60's.  Water conditions Inshore for all locations will be good for most of Saturday, through the evening before winds increase to Small Craft Advisories.  Sunday will be cautious with Small Craft Advisories with SW/SSW winds to 25 knots building seas to 5 feet at 6 seconds.  However, the bays do not look too bad on Saturday Night or Sunday and will likely not have SCA's.  Midshore to Offshore will be cautious with Small Craft Advisories all weekend with SW/SSW winds to 30 knots and seas to 7 feet at 6 seconds. These increased winds are due to the passing high pressure.  Water temperatures for rivers and bays are in the mid 60's with inshore ocean waters in the low 60's and midshore to offshore in the upper 50's.  This continued SW/SSW winds could increase a southern swell and cause some upwelling, bringing temperatures down some this weekend.  Surf conditions will be normal around 1-2 feet, with gustier winds out of the SW on Saturday Night and Sunday.

For next week, Monday will continue with rain and possible thunderstorms then clear out for the remainder of the week.  Temperatures will be in the mid 70's and lows in the mid 50's after the cold front passes through.  Water conditions will continue with Small Craft Advisories for Monday and then return back to normal for the rest of the week.  Surf conditions looks normal all week, with a gusty wind on Monday.   

High pressure off the coast will move out to sea over the weekend.  Low pressure over the Great Lakes Region will push a cold front through the area by the end of the weekend or early in the week.

NWS PHI & OKX have already issued Small Craft Advisories for all NJ and NY Coastal Waters excluding New York Harbor/Raritan Bay and Delaware Bay from late Saturday Night through Sunday Evening.  The forecast for water conditions has not changed.

Today will be very much like the last two days...sunny, dry, hot and humid with some clouds moving in later today.  Temperatures will be in the upper 80's to 90's for most areas, except along and on the water will be in the 70's and 80's.  Lows will only get down into the upper 60's.  There are some Air Quality Alerts for northeastern NJ.  Inshore water conditions for today are good through late tonight.  Today SW winds 10-15 knots with some gusts up to 20 knots and seas 3 feet at 5 seconds.  Bays and Rivers will see the same winds with seas 1 foot or less then increasing 1-2 feet later in the day.  Tonight, conditions will deteriorate with gusts to 25 knots and seas increasing to 5 feet.  Small Craft Advisories will be in effect from tonight through Monday Morning.  Offshore is cautious all day with Small Craft Advisory conditions.  Surf conditions are normal at 2-3 feet with SW winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots.

Tomorrow chance of showers and thunderstorms with increasing chances in the afternoon and night.  There is a Slight and Generalized Risk of Severe Weather with strong to severe thunderstorms.  These storms could have damaging winds, heavy rains and dangerous lightning.  Hail and tornadoes cannot be ruled out either.  Water conditinos will be cautious all around with SCA's.  SW winds 15-20 knots with gusts to 25 knots and seas building 5-7 feet at 5 seconds.  Bay and River conditions will see the winds, but not the higher seas, obviously.  Surf conditions will be the same 2-3 feet with gusty SW winds to 25 knots.  If you are out on the beach, be cautious of any storms popping up bringing dangerous lightning.

There is a Risk of Severe Weather across central portions of the US, including the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys.  The National Hurricane Center has an Invest Area in the Bay of Campeche on a low pressure area that is remnants of Pacific Hurricane Barbara.

Sunny and hot across most of the state with highs into the 80's today inland and 70's along/on the water.  Strong to severe thunderstorms will move in from the west ahead of a cold front later this afternoon or this evening.  A pop up storm is possible as well.  Most of the state is under a Slight Risk of severe storms with the main threat being damaging winds, heavy rains, dangerous lightning and the possibility of hail and/or tornadoes.  Northwestern NJ will likely see the worst of these storms.  Water conditions are cautious with Small Craft Advisories in effect with SW winds to 20-25 knots and seas 3-5 feet at 5 seconds.  Bay and Rivers are not included in the SCA's.  Surf conditions are moderate today with 3-4 foot waves, 4-5 foot SW swell and SW winds 15-20 knots with some higher gusts.  There is a moderate risk of rip currents today as well.

Tomorrow will have showers and thunderstorms with higher 70's temperatures and overnight lows down into the mid 50's.  Water conditions Inshore will be good while Midshore to Offshore will be cautious.  I will have more on the Week Outlook by this evening.

The SPC has increased most of the state in a Slight Risk and has issued a Mesoscale Discussion for the area.  Thunderstorms will begin "popping" up ahead of the cold front and squall lines.  The main threat will be damaging winds, hail, heavy rains, and dangerous lightning.  A Watch may not be issued, so be aware!

There are some thunderstorms and showers popping up along a seabreeze front working east/southeast against the northwest winds.

Strong storms moving into the area and out to sea from Ocean and Monmouth Counties.  The storm in Ocean County dropped a little larger than pea size hail here in Toms River for about 30 seconds!
