Slipped out of the inlet around 7 AM and found some birds just south of the bell buoy. NADA! Saw some more birds off of Lake Como so gave that a try. NADA! More birds off Spring Lake and again NADA except the Miss Belmar PRincess joined us. Back to Shark River Area and more birds and jigged a blue fish about 6" long on a 007. Birds off Asbury, NADA. More birds at Elberon, NADA. Off to Long Branch and the Rocks. Finally several blues up to 8" on the 007. Belmar Princess followed and hung out NE of the rocks. Wind picked up out of the SE and we bailed. Maybe next time will be better!

if the birds are working and there are no bluefish under them, there is a really good chance they may be stripers. Put on a snagger, snag the bunker, if that is what the birds are hovering over, then drop the snagged bunker to the bottom... Striper time... If the metals aren't working, then there aren't any bluefish under them, all thats left is Stripers.

I was out over the weekend and found that the bird activity was from VERY small bluefish beating up on rainfish. The bluefish were about six to eight inches long, as Dave said.
We did the same thing Dave. Cast out and retrieve, nothing. However, we did see the small blues chasing out Avas. The Avas were as big as the blues. One of my guys did manage to hook one of the blues. Would have made good fluke bait!

They say it is going to get better.
I hope the cold front comes soon.
I need to catch and not fish.

Yes I think it was all little bluefish chasing rainfish. No Bass! Spent a lot of time jigging the bottom under the birds and not a tap. Nothing on fish finder but bait balls as well. Come on bigger fish!
