Title: 8/6 BFT
Post by: fellinger on August 07, 2013, 12:28:37 PM
The weather was beautiful yesterday. I had a crew to go on my boat but, a buddy had his crew backup, had bait already, and has done the BFT thing way more than me so, me and my friend Adam jumped on with him. We left the dock at 0300 on the nose and made it out to grounds without any problems.

As soon as we got the fleet at the AP area we were greeted with tons of tuna chick, bait, and fish marks! In the water wen a 6 rod spread including cedar plugs, rigged ballyhoo on Joe Shutes, sterling spreader bar, and daisy chains. We trolled around for a while and including after the fleet moved on. We didn't hear many, if any reports of fish coming on.

After we gave that area hell we moved to the North end of the chicken where we instantly found life (turtles, whale, skipjack on the surface, etc). We trolled around there some and through the pots without a bite.....

We headed back to an original areas near the AP that we marked fish and bait. Got there and again, fish and bait on the screen. We chunked for a bunch and had one fish hit the deep line but it cut the line. Shark?? Who knows. We played that out for a while when we heard a guy near us call in a bite. He was on his way home, caught a fish and invited others in since it had been so slow. What a great guy! We headed over with every other boat on the ocean and marked tons of fish, watched and heared a few more caught.

Getting towards our quitting time we started heading in. Another smaller boat made contact with us (small boats stick together!) and said if he got into anything he'd call us. 10 minutes later we got the call that he had a double header. Headed to his area but, no fish for us.

All in all it was a great day. The life is there and for the few lucky ones they got to take advantage of it.

I agree. I would've preferred to have some of the marine life inside the boat and my belly!
