Didn't have a charter today but was hired by a crew that wanted to learn the ropes of Sharking. Ran his crew out to the hole and got set up on the first drift....didn't look that good so I picked up and ran a few miles south to a nice looking area holding tons of bait. Drifted for an hour or so and had the perfect conditions....tinker mackeral all over and good marks down at 40-50 feet. When I saw a school of bunker come by I told the guys to get ready because the man in the grey suit is probably near by.
8 minutes later the 50' deep line starts screaming...set the hook and the big thresher makes 4 jumps clear out of the water...Game on! The guys ask me to get the fish under control... so I settle in for battle. After 20 minutes or so its the typical straight up and down battle....I hand the rod to Joe. Joe finishes him off in about another 15 minutes and Rich sinks the poon and I get to deal with the business end of the beast....after 4 close calls I get him roped and tied off. Game Over.
I had it pegged at 225 lbs but the formula came out to 213 lbs.
Nice job to the crew on their first real shark!
