Title: NJ Fishing & Boating Weather Outlook Week Edition: Aug 26-30, 2013

The last week of August and going into the last “official” weekend and end of meteorological Summer.  Where has the time gone?  However, Summer will remind us this week that it is not done, yet.  The week will begin with chances of rain and thunderstorms through midweek with a return of hot and humid air on Tuesday and Wednesday.  By Thursday showers and thunderstorms are gone from the forecast and some seasonable temperatures and humidity return to end the week.  These conditions look like they will carry on over into the weekend as well.  High temperatures this week will vary from mid to upper 80’s, maybe even 90’s on Tuesday and Wednesday inland, with upper 70’s to 80’s along/on the water and across northern areas.  Overnight lows will range from the low 60’s to low 70’s, but those cool 50’s and 40’s are gone this week.  With the higher temperatures will come moist air with dew points in the 60’s and 70’s bringing higher humidity and muggy conditions.  Water conditions will vary by location this week, with some cautious conditions due to higher winds and building seas across Midshore to Offshore areas and some southern inshore waters.  However, conditions should remain below Small Craft Advisory criteria.  With an unsettled weather pattern through Thursday, varying pressure gradients and boundaries could cause some gusty winds to 20 knots and seas 3-5 with short period chop wind waves.  Water temperatures are holding steady with all waters in the 70’s.  Bay and rivers are in the mid to upper 70’s, inshore ocean waters in the low to mid 70’s, midshore to offshore waters in the low to mid 70’s and surf temperatures in the low 70’s.  Surf and beach conditions look good all week with 1-3 foot wave heights and Low to Moderate Risks of rip currents.  Some gustier winds are possible through Thursday, but conditions are fishable all week.  UV Index will be Very High all week, so don’t forget the sunblock!

High pressure currently over the area will settle south and southwestward through Tuesday.  A cold front will stall out near the region Tuesday into Wednesday before lifting north as a warm front.  Another cold front will move through late Wednesday into early Thursday.  Weak high pressure will build into the northeast Friday and Saturday then settle to the south of the area on Sunday!

The weekend looks like it will be a continuation of the end of the week with seasonable temperatures, sunny and dry conditions and good water and surf conditions.  I will have an extended Holiday Weekend Outlook later this week.

Tropical Depression 6 has formed in the Bay of Campeche/Southern Gulf of Mexico.  This will bring some high winds and rains to Mexico this week, but no threat to the US.  Other than this system, the tropics still remain quiet with a hint of activity brewing over the next week to ten days.

Good morning!  Mostly cloudy skies across the state with some areas with some sunshine and others with scattered showers.  The showers should clear out this morning across the southern half of the state and skies will become partly sunny to mostly cloudy.  Scattered showers and thunderstorms are still possible across the northern half of the state during the day and then over the entire state by tonight.  There is a generalized risk for severe weather today, so storms could be strong to severe across northern areas with damaging winds, frequent lightning and heavy rains.  High temperatures will be in the upper 70’s to low 80’s maybe some mid 80’s inland if the cloud cover lessens and the sun is able to make it out.  Overnight lows will be in the mid to upper 60’s.  Dew points are in the upper 50’s and 60’s with moist air moving in.  Humidity will be moderate today feeling a bit muggy.

Water conditions are rated good to cautious today with winds gusting to 20 knots inshore and up to 25 knots offshore with seas 3-4 feet.  Sandy Hook east along Long Island has Small Craft Advisories in effect.  Conditions should remain under SCA criteria on NJ Coastal Waters today.  Raritan Bay will have southwest winds 10-15 knots decreasing to 5-10 knots tonight with 1 foot or less building to 1-2 feet then subsiding tonight back to 1 foot or less with limited visibility at times to 1-3 nautical miles.  Barnegat Bay will have west-southwest winds around 10 knots and seas 1 foot or less.  Delaware Bay will have southwest winds 5-10 knots increased to 10-15 knots tonight with seas 1-2 feet and limited visibility at times to 1-3 nautical miles.  Inshore ocean waters will have southwest winds 10-15 knots increasing to 15-20 knots this afternoon with seas 2-3 feet at 7-8 seconds with limited visibility tonight to 1-3 nautical miles.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have west-southwest winds 12-17 knots becoming southwest at 14-24 knots this afternoon with seas 2-4 feet at 8 seconds becoming 4 seconds this afternoon.

Surf and beach conditions are good with Low Risks of rip currents, however winds will be gusty today.  Southwest winds will be 10-15 mph increasing in the afternoon with gusts to 20 mph with normal surf and wave heights 2-3 feet with a 2-3 foot east swell at 8 seconds.  Surf temperatures are in the low 70’s.  UV Index is Very High at 8/15.

Good morning!  Hot and humid today!  It is mostly sunny with some clouds mixed in and more clouds across the northern half of the state right now.  Clouds will continue to build throughout the day.  There is a chance of afternoon/late afternoon showers and thunderstorms carrying over into the overnight with some of these storms possibly strong to severe.  Storms will be isolated to scattered and could move into the area or also pop-up this afternoon.  High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80’s with possible 90’s inland.  Overnight lows will only get down to the mid 60’s to low 70’s.  Dew points are in the 60’s to 70’s already with higher humidity and muggy conditions.

Water conditions are cautious in some areas this morning from lingering gusty winds and seas to 4 feet, however winds and seas will subside this morning and water conditions will be good for all locations.  Still with a good rating seas will have a short period wind chop waves.  Raritan Bay will have northwest winds 5-10 knots diminishing to west winds at 5 knots tonight with seas 1 foot or less.  Barnegat Bay will have west-northwest winds 5-8 knots diminishing to 5 knots in the afternoon then becoming variable at less than 5 knots at night with seas 1 foot or less.  Delaware Bay will have west winds 5-10 knots with gusts to 20 knots becoming south around 5 knots tonight then southwest after midnight with seas 1-2 feet and limited visibility to 1-3 nautical miles.  Inshore ocean waters will have varying winds from west/west-northwest/west-southwest 10-21 knots this morning diminishing to north/north-northwest/west-northwest at 6-11 knots this afternoon with seas 2-3 feet at 4-5 seconds.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have west-northwest/west winds 10-22 knots this morning diminishing to north/northwest 7-12 knots with seas 2-4 feet at 4-5 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions are good with Low Risks of rip currents.  Even though the risk is Low, is does not mean that there is NO risk.  The NWS notes that there have been increased water rescues on LBI over the last couple of days.  West winds will be 5-10 mph today with normal surf and wave heights 2-3 feet with a 2 foot south swell at 7 seconds.  Surf temperatures are in the upper 60’s to low 70’s.  UV Index is Very High at 8/15.

Good morning!  Mostly cloudy with some sun mixed in this morning.  Some showers moving into North and Central western NJ.  Partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies will continue today with a chance of showers and thunderstorms all day.  Today has the highest chances of rain of the last 3 days with the greatest chance during the day and lessening into the overnight.  There is a pocket of rain ahead of a large area of rain to the north and west of us that will be moving in from the northwest moving southeast.  There is also a generalized risk for severe weather today, so any thunderstorms could be strong to severe.  Highs will only be in the low to mid 80’s today with overnight lows in the upper 60’s to low 70’s with low 60’s across northern areas.  Dew points are in the 60’s and 70’s across the state making humidity high with muggy conditions.

Water conditions are rated good today for all locations.  Raritan Bay will have south winds 5-10 knots becoming southeast tonight then northeast after midnight with seas 1 foot or less.  Barnegat Bay will have variable winds 5 knots or less with seas 1 foot or less.  Delaware Bay will have southwest winds 5-10 knots becoming light and variable around 5 knots this evening then northeast around 5 knots tonight with seas 1-2 feet.  Inshore ocean waters will have west-southwest/south-southwest 5-10 knots becoming south/west this afternoon with seas 1-2 feet at 10 seconds.  Highest waves and seas will be across southern areas with some gusts to 20 knots.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have west-southwest winds 5-10 knots becoming southwest/south-southwest this afternoon with seas 1-2 feet at 10 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions are good with Low Risks of rip currents.  Northwest winds will shift to the south this afternoon around 5 mph with normal surf and wave heights 1-3 feet with light swells at 10 seconds.  Surf temperatures range from the upper 60’s to mid 70’s.  UV Index Very High at 8/15.

Thanks!  It really isn't that much work and I don't consider it work because I enjoy it.

Morning updates take about 25-30 minutes max, that includes downloading and uploading the images to my photobucket and going through and copy and pasting.

Weekend Outlooks take about 30-45 minutes and Weekly Outlooks take anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half.  I have it set up in a form, so it is just a matter of plugging the data in.  Occasionally, it can take longer depending on the weather events and forecasts and how up to date I have stayed on the current conditions.  Rarely, am I not up to date (up to the minute) on weather.  It is like reading the newspaper in the morning.  I even have a lot of it coming to my phone as well.  I know...very nerdy, but it is something I have always enjoyed and have taken my hobby and turned it into a career!

Good late morning!  Cloudy this morning with some sun mixed in.  Clouds will break and clear some this afternoon especially across the central and southern areas of the state becoming partly sunny mid to late afternoon.  Clouds will then increase again tonight into the overnight.  There are chances of scattered showers and thunderstorms across Northern Central and Northern NJ, focusing on Northwestern NJ.  From the NJ Turnpike North, areas could see a few scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day with the greater chances in Northwestern NJ.  High temperatures inland will be in the low to mid 80’s with low to upper 70’s along/on the water.  Overnight lows in the upper 60’s with low 60’s across northern areas.  Dew points are in the 60’s and 70’s with high humidity and muggy conditions.

Water conditions will vary by location and time today.  What was the cold front that was south of the area, stalled out and Low Pressure has formed along it.  That Low Pressure is forecast to strengthen and move northeast.  Winds and seas within the low pressure system with be in the 30 knot range with 10 foot seas intensifying as it moves northeast.  This will create an onshore flow out of the east/east-northeast.  For coastal waters, the area will see winds to 25 knots and seas 4-5 feet with southern areas see the highest effects.  Raritan Bay will have east winds 5-10 knots with seas 1 foot or less.  Barnegat Bay will have east-northeast winds 10-15 knots becoming east at 5-8 knots tonight becoming variable and less than 5 knots late tonight with seas 1 foot or less.  Delaware Bay will have northeast winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots with seas 2-3 feet subsiding to 5-10 knots tonight then 5 knots lates with seas 1-2 feet.   Inshore ocean waters from Manasquan Inlet to Barnegat Inlet will have east-northeast winds 12-16 knots with seas 2-3 feet at 4-5 seconds.  Barnegat Inlet to Cape May will have cautious conditions with east-northeast/northeast winds 13-22 knots with seas 2-4 feet at 4-5 seconds.  Areas just south of Cape May have Small Craft Advisories in effect.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have cautious conditions, especially across Southern Midshore areas and Offshore waters with winds east-northeast/northeast 12-22 knots with seas 2-4 feet at 4-5 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions are ok to poor in areas, with Moderate Risks of rip currents.   Northeast winds 10-15 mph with higher gusts have caused rough, high surf with stacked up waves and wave heights of 3-4 feet with a 2-3 foot east swell at 6 seconds.  Water conditions overall are very dangerous today for swimming and anyone entering the water at all needs to be cautious, especially across southern areas!  However, conditions are fishable today!  Water temperatures are in the low to mid 70’s.  UV Index is High at 7/15.

The tropics are becoming active.  There are several areas off of Africa that are being watched for possible development over the next several days.

Good morning!  Mostly cloudy with sun mixed in at times.  Skies will vary today from mostly cloudy to partly sunny with sun mixing in.  Clouds will decrease throughout the day becoming partly cloudy tonight.  High pressure is over the area, but will move offshore during today and that will be the high that brings a southerly flow this weekend.  Today looks to be dry with minimal chances of isolated or scattered showers or thunderstorms mainly confined to northwestern NJ.  High temperatures will be in the low to upper 80’s inland with upper 70’s along/on the water.  Overnight lows will be in the upper 60’s to low 70’s with low to mid 60’s across northern areas.  Dew points are in the 60’s with some 70’s scattered throughout the state.  This moist air will bring moderate to high humidity and muggy conditions, again today.

Water conditions are rated good for all locations.  Winds are much lighter today and seas are slowly recovering with 3-4 feet at 7 seconds across all ocean waters.  However, the recovery will only last today before kicking up again on Saturday.  Raritan Bay will have southwest winds around 5 knots becoming south late today and shifting back to southwest at 5-10 knots tonight with seas 1 foot or less.  Barnegat Bay will have variable winds around 5 knots becoming southwest 5-8 knots this afternoon increasing to 9 knots tonight with seas 1 foot or less.  Delaware Bay will have southwest winds around 5 knots becoming south later today then again southwest at 5-10 knots tonight with seas 2-3 feet subsiding to 1-2 feet tonight.  Inshore ocean waters will have west-southwest winds and northeast becoming south winds for extreme southern waters 2-7 knots becoming 5-10 knots this afternoon with seas 3 feet at 7 seconds.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have west-southwest and north-northeast winds becoming west-southwest this afternoon at 2-8 knots becoming 8-12 knots this afternoon with seas 3-4 feet at 7 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions are ok to good with Moderate Risks of rip currents today.  Winds are south at 5-10 mph with normal to calm surf that could become rougher this afternoon and wave heights increasing to 3-4 feet with a 3 foot east swell at 7 seconds.  Water conditions look better than they actually are, so be careful if you are in the water today.  Waves still looked stacked up from yesterday with a lot of “white” water pooling in the wash.  Currents are running strong north to south as well.  Despite waves not being as intense as yesterday right now, it is creating a washing machine effect right at the surf line with a lot of water building up, then being pulled out at the first break in waves, aiding any rips.  These conditions are excellent for fish and fishing, but not so much for anyone in water.  Surf temperatures are in the upper 60’s to low 70’s.  UV Index High at 6/15.
