Title: NJ Fishing & Boating Weather Outlook Week Edition: Sept 3-6, 2013

The first week of September and the "unofficial end" of Summer.  The unsettled weather will continue through Tuesday Day before clearing out for Tuesday Night and the remainder of the week.  No rain or thunderstorms are in the forecast through the weekend, so despite a few rainy days, we will get a break with several dry ones.  A pattern change looks like it is in the making with the hot and humid Summer pattern moving south and the cooler and drier Fall air moving down from the north.  The cold front/s followed by Canadian High Pressure will keep some cooler and drier air over the region through the weekend and likely until the colder and drier air moves in.  Even with the cooler air, the area is still looking at mid 70’s to mid 80’s with overnight lows ranging from low 50’s to mid 60’s, still.  Dew points will drop back into the 50’s to 60’s again, making humidity moderate and much more comfortable.  Water conditions are rated good for all locations all week, except for Friday with some possible cautious conditions due to gusty winds to 20 knots.  Small Craft Advisories are not likely this week, even with the gustier winds the end of the week.  Surf and beach conditions will be good with Low Risks of rip currents, normal surf and wave heights 1-2 feet.  Water temperatures are steady with rivers and bays in the upper 70’s and all ocean waters in the low to mid 70’s with surf temperatures dipping in the mid 60’s to low 70’s.

A cold front over the Eastern Great Lakes will move southeast and through the area on Tuesday Morning.  High pressure will briefly build over the region on Wednesday.  A second cold front will move across the area on Thursday followed by Central Canadian High Pressure for the end of the week.

The weekend looks like it will be a continuation of the end of the week with temperatures in the 70’s and drier air in place.  Water and surf conditions look good as well.  Another cold front will move through on Sunday followed by more Canadian High Pressure.

The tropics have several areas of interest or invests that will be watched this coming week.  However, nothing of concern at this point.

Good morning!  A mix of clouds and sun with the clouds winning this morning.  Clouds will lessen some today.  The cold front was a little slower than anticipated and has yet to completely move through the state.  This will bring very low chances of isolated or scattered showers or thunderstorms today and tonight.  Highs will be in the low 80’s with upper 70’s across northern areas.  Overnight lows will be in the upper 50’s to low 60’s inland, low to mid 60’s along/on the water and low 50’s across northern areas.  Dew points are still in the upper 60’s and 70’s making for high humidity and muggy conditions.  As the cold front pushes through, drier air will move in and humidity will drop throughout the day.

Water conditions are rated good for all locations.  There could be some areas with some lingering, patchy fog limiting visibility through the afternoon.  Today will start with a southwesterly flow and change over a west wind this afternoon.  Seas will range from 2-4 feet with small short period wind waves.  Areas beyond Chicken Canyon will see seas to 5 feet.  Winds will increase throughout the day and peak into the overnight.  Raritan Bay will have southwest winds becoming west late this morning around 5 knots changing to northwest at 5-10 knots tonight with gusts to 20 knots after midnight.  Seas will be 1 foot or less building to 1-2 feet then subsiding tonight to 1 foot or less.  Barnegat Bay will have west-northwest winds around 10 knots changing to northwest winds 9-11 knots with seas 1 foot or less building to 1-2 feet tonight.  Delaware Bay will have northwest winds around 10 knots becoming 10-15 knots tonight with seas 1-2 feet building to 2-3 feet tonight.  Visibility will be limited to less than 1 nautical mile then 1-3 nautical miles into the afternoon.  Inshore ocean waters will have southwest/west-southwest winds 8-12 knots changing to west/northwest winds 10-12 knots with seas 2-3 feet at 7 seconds and limited visibility to 1-3 nautical miles through the afternoon.  Midshore to Offshore will have southwest/west winds 8-16 knots with seas 3-4 feet at 7 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions look good with Low Risks of rip currents.  Winds will be northwest around 10 mph.  Surf is normal with wave heights between 1-3 feet with a 2-3 foot south swell at 7 seconds.  Surf temperatures are in the low to mid 70’s.  UV Index is High at 7/15.

Good morning!  Sunny…haven’t said that in a while, with only a cloud here or there mixed in today and tonight will be mostly clear with some very light clouds.  The front is well offshore today and has brought high pressure behind it with cooler and drier air.  There is no rain in the forecast today, anywhere.  High temperatures today will be in the low 80’s uniformly across the entire state.  Overnight lows will be in the low 60’s inland, low to mid 60’s along/on the water and low to mid 50’s across northern areas.  Dew points are mainly in the mid to upper 50’s with some low 60’s as well.  This is making for less humidity and more comfortable conditions.

Water conditions are rated good today for all locations.  Winds will be mainly out of the northwest and west today with some gusty winds that will subside by later this morning and settling seas down from the 4-5 feet.  Raritan Bay will have northwest winds 15-20 knots becoming west at 10 knots later this morning and then 5-10 knots tonight with seas 1 foot or less.  Barnegat Bay will have west winds around 10 knots becoming west-southwest at 7 knots tonight with seas 1 foot or less.  Delaware Bay will have west winds around 10 knots becoming southwest tonight with seas 1-2 feet.  Inshore ocean waters will have northwest/north-northwest winds 9-13 knots becoming west-northwest 6-10 knots this afternoon with seas 2 feet at 6 seconds.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have northwest winds 10-16 knots becoming west/west-northwest at 8-14 knots with seas 2-3 feet at 6-7 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions look good with Low Risks of rip currents.  Winds will be northwest around 10 mph, calm to normal surf with wave heights around 2 feet with a 2 foot south swell at 6 seconds.  Surf temperatures are in the low to mid 70’s still.  UV Index is High at 7/15.

Good morning!  Today will be a repeat of yesterday with cooler overnight lows.  Lots of sun this morning with some clouds mixed in.  More clouds across the northern portion of the state.  The rest of today will remain mostly sunny with some periods of more clouds, especially across the northern part of the state, then mostly clear tonight.  With a fast approaching cold front, rain chances are possible, but very low.  Again, the greater chances will be across northern areas and will only be a passing scattered or isolated shower if they form.  This front will move quickly and pass through the area by tonight.  High temperatures will range from the low 70’s to the low 80’s from north to south.  Overnight lows will feel like Fall and maybe even Winter in northern areas and higher elevations.  Inland lows will be in the upper 40’s to low 50’s with mid to upper 50’s along/on the water and upper 30’s across northern areas and higher elevations.  These below average lows will only be here tonight and tomorrow before returning back to seasonable temperatures.  Dew points are lower again, in the 50’s and 60’s making humidity low to moderate and comfortable.

Water conditions are rated good for Inshore and cautious for Midshore to Offshore.  Winds will be gusty out of the west switching to the north/northwest with some areas seeing winds and seas just below Small Craft Advisory criteria with the potential for Small Craft Advisories to be issued statewide.  Raritan Bay will have west winds at 10 knots becoming north this afternoon with winds increasing tonight to 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots and seas 1 foot or less today increasing to 1-2 feet tonight.  Barnegat Bay will have west-northwest winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots becoming north-northwest this afternoon and then becoming north tonight with seas around 1 foot.  Delaware Bay will have west winds 5-10 knots becoming northwest 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots then north winds around 15 knots with gusts to 20 knots tonight and seas 1-2 feet becoming 2-3 feet.  Inshore ocean waters will have west/northwest winds 10-15 knots with gusts up to 20 knots becoming north later today then winds increasing 15-20 knots tonight with seas 2-3 feet at 7 seconds building to 2-4 feet at 11 seconds tonight.  Midshore to Offshore will have west winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots becoming north at 15-20 knots with seas 2-4 feet at 4-6 seconds building 3-4 feet at 4 seconds offshore and 10 seconds midshore.  Wind gusts in excess of 25 knots are possible across some areas intermittently.

**BW forecasts are on the lower side and NWS forecasts are taking the higher side of the models.

Surf and beach conditions are good to ok with Low Risks of rip currents.  Northwest winds are around 15 knots today with some gusts to 20 knots.  This is keeping the surf calm and wave heights on the lower side.  Waves will be around 2 feet with a 3 foot southeast swell at 6 seconds.  The surf and ocean are very calm this morning and look like glass as far as you can see.  This will change some this afternoon and beyond immediate coastal areas, seas will increase to 2-3 feet.  Water temperatures are still in the low to mid 70’s.  UV Index is High at 7/15.

Tropics are active with several areas of interest and invests and Tropical Storm Gabrielle.  So far, this does not look like a threat to mainland US.  Gabrielle is forecast to go out to sea.  Depending on the track, water conditions may see some effects next week.  This will be something to watch over the next few days.

Good morning!  Sunny with some clouds mixed in.  More clouds across the northern half of the state.  Sunny skies will continue today with mostly clear skies tonight.  Additional clouds may build in over the day.  It is dry and will be dry today with no rain in the forecast.  It was chilly last night and still a chill in the air this morning, with temperatures in the upper 30’s to upper 50’s across the state.  High temperatures for today will be in the mid 70’s inland and low 70’s along/on the water and for northern areas.  Overnight lows will be in the low to mid 50’s inland and along/on the water with low 40’s across northern areas and higher elevations.  Dew points are only in the 40’s this morning and will increase to the 50’s, maybe a few low 60’s today.  This will keep the humidity low and comfortable.

Water conditions are rated good for today, however this morning through the afternoon will have some gusty winds and higher seas.  Raritan Bay will have north winds 10-15 knots becoming east this afternoon and diminishing to around 5 knots then becoming southeast late and then southwest tonight with seas 1-2 feet subsiding to 1 foot or less.  Barnegat Bay will have north-northeast winds 6-8 knots becoming east-northeast in the afternoon and then variable tonight around 5 knots with seas 1 foot or less.  Delaware Bay will have northeast winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots becoming north 5-10 knots this afternoon and then 5 knots tonight with seas 2-3 feet subsiding to 1-2 feet.  Inshore ocean waters will have northeast winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots diminishing to 5-10 knots then becoming east late then south/southeast tonight around 5 knots with seas 2-4 feet at 7 seconds subsiding to 2 feet at 10 seconds in the afternoon.  Midshore to Offshore will have northeast winds 10-15 knots diminishing to 5-10 knots in the afternoon with seas 3-5 feet at 4-5 seconds subsiding to 2-4 feet at 9 seconds in the afternoon.

Surf and beach conditions are good with Low Risks of rip currents.  Winds will be northeast around 10 knots with some gusts around 15-20 knots possible.  Surf is normal to slightly rougher with wave heights 1-3 feet with a 2-3 foot east swell at 5 seconds which will increase to near 10 seconds later in the day.  Surf temperatures in the low to mid 70’s.  UV Index is High at 6/15.

Tropical Storm Gabrielle is just remnants now that are caught up with some other areas of thunderstorms in the Caribbean.  There are three other areas of interest or invest that are being watched, but nothing of concern right now.
