Okay here it goes. I had 2 newbies out this past Monday to see if they liked surf fishing. Both were avid freshwater fisherman but never really were interested in salt. I had them check out the equipment first to make sure they were comfortable with the bigger braided line and the heavier weight the whole rig brings to the party. Both were good. Drove to IBSP and set up shop at Gillikins as this is always my favorite spot. We were starting out using mullet with my modified mullet rigs. Well, in no time fish'on. Matt caught a nice blue fish to start things off. Followed by my pole going crazy and soon I landed the second blue. Which was followed by Steffen with another nice blue. All the blues were in the 3 to 5 pound class just right for a great fish fry.
All in all by the time we were done there were 8 blues caught, 4 skate. 1 sea robin and one throw back fluke.
I was throwing top water lures and was catching blues as well. I was using a blue and white Gags Grabber lure and was fishing it slow when the fish began to strike. There is nothing like seeing a fish strike your lure and jump completely out of the water. That's what its all about. The hearts starts pumping and the adrenalin lever is running high. !!!YES!!!
If you want to have some fun get to the beach with some mullet and have tons of fun. There are schools of mullet in the pocket as they pour out of the inlet and disperse north and south. Most if not all B&T's in the area have fresh mullet now. Don't settle for the frozen ones!
One thing I do have to mention the beach has changed, the gradual change in the bars takes a bit to get use to when looking for the cuts. They are there, but with all the sand dispersed from Sandy you have to look a bit harder to notice the change. Its there so take your time.
Hope to see some of you out there. It's time to hit the beach. With in the next few weeks the big guys will be here and with them will come the bass. I have a feeling this fall run will be fantastic. Its party time...

there has been a lot of change in areas since sandy. I had 2 spots that are no longer producing.

As of early this morning there are tons of blues hitting mullet as they pour out of the inlet. And a couple of stripers caught as one was a keeper and one just short, caught on fresh clams.
Get ready the door is open and herre they come.
