Title: Off shore electronics
Post by: Chad on October 07, 2013, 11:26:57 AM
I just got a 20' mako cc looking to put some new electronics in it. It has a VHF radio which works. I'm looking for a fish finder / GPS unit. I was thinking lowrance HDS 7 or 8. What do you guys think of this unit? Should I be looking for more? I am planning to go off shore on good days and near shore on not so good days. Hopefully YFT fishing.

Thank you

Chad

Lowrance, Faruno, Simrad, Raymarine all make respectable machines.
Something with a 7" screen should fit that boat well.
I agree with Hotrod that the bigger the better.  But on a 20' Mako you do not have a big helm and your never going to be more than 8' away from any viewing angle of the screen. I have a 7" and can view it well from 13' away in sonar mode.  Sure I would like a bigger machine but price and fit is a factor.

Fred,

I went back and forth a few times and looked at a bunch of other boats and I finally decided to throw an offer a few $k under asking and he accepted it. After being out in the boat I love it it just needs a few improvements.
