I have not been bluefishing in a few years, but with these current reports I think it might be time to go again. This has been a very weird year for the bluefish PB's as they were bottom fishing earlier in the summer because of the lack of bluefish. Then it was 1 to 3 pounders for a couple of weeks. Now they are jigging some of the biggest bluefish seen in NJ waters in a long time.
Here is a report from a NS captain out of Belmar from today. "This morning, we continued to fish North East of our inlet with phenomenal results. We had excellent fishing catching 15-24 lb blues on diamond jigs, crocodiles, 47’s & 67’s. It didn’t matter what you threw at them, they were hungry and they were eating. There were some fish showing up on top but mostly they were stacked up all along the bottom. It is unprecedented the amount of giant blues there are. Captain L**** said that he has "never seen this many jumbo blues with the majority of them being between 18-22 lbs.” You heard it here folks, now is the time to come fishing! We also had a couple of handfuls of throwback stripers. Our pool winner was a tie today between Bob and Rick with a 22 lb blue. Sam Berman, who didn’t play the pool, caught a whopping 24.3 oz blue that was officially weighed in at the tackle shop!" WOW
Some of these blues look like tuna fish. t^ clp The
state record is 27 pounds 1 oz caught in 1997. HMMM
Look at the size of the ones in this pic I also got from another site.
I might have to pick a day next week and give my arms a workout. Time to break out "THE STICK". hhppy TT^
