Title: Airsoft Guns....Questions about legality
Post by: Duffman on October 25, 2013, 05:56:57 PM
Kids been bugging me non stop for one to shoot in the yard.

Knowing the gun laws in this great state of ours... nts...googled "airsoft guns nj" and its unreal the amount of stuff that comes up! Almost too much to read. Arrests, shootings, jail time, etc

Just looking to let him target shoot in a fenced in yard.  Cant get any definitive answer whether its legal or not, by reading online. Seems like a very grey area when it pertains to law.

Any help appreciated, looking for a little insight.

Miss the days when I could carry my Daisy all over!!

never really thought of it.  Always thought they fell in the same category as paintball guns.  BB guns on the other hand are or were another story.  If it's being used in your yard or in a designated airsoft facility, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I would be cautious.

Geez, I use to let the kids shoot targets in the back yard when they were young with my air guns and never gave it a second thought as long as all was safe.

Having sold real guns, paintball guns and air soft guns for over 10 years, I can tell you definitively that they are legal in NJ. t^

Having said that, I'm sure everyone has seen the tragic news story about the boy who was shot by police because they thought he was carrying an pellet gun that they perceived to be a real rifle.  But, for those who haven't...

IMHO all of these "toy" guns should be required to be blaze orange over it's entire length instead of just a half inch on the end of the barrel.

Paul....same $hit I read when I googled it?

Bob, thanks for the input.

Just looking to let the kid plunk in the yard.

This state makes everything seem very, VERY tough!

Airsoft does not require a firearm id or a 4473 to be filled out.  Do not give them any ideas.

Well, picked one up with the kid.

Never knew this airsoft thing was so big. Go to an airsoft store and you'll know what I mean!
