Title: NJ Fishing & Boating Weather Outlook Weekly Edition: Nov 11-15, 2013

Another mostly settled week when talking about weather, but water conditions will be a different story.  Monday will start off sunny and dry with increasing clouds.  Cold air will push into the region the beginning of this week.  By Monday Night into Tuesday rain/snow showers are possible clearing out by Tuesday Night.  Accumulation will be less than a half of an inch total, if any.  Snow is likely to mix with rain and make some messy conditions on the roads, including possible ice.  The threat of a coastal storm/Nor’Easter has come and gone and by later Tuesday Night conditions will clear out for the rest of the week with sunny skies.  High temperatures will range from the 40’s to the 50’s.  Overnight lows will be in the low 20’s to low 40’s.  Inland winds could be gusty through Wednesday with northwest winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 20 mph.  Winds will decrease for Thursday and Friday.  Water conditions will continue to be cautious with gusty winds and elevated seas through Wednesday before winds diminish and seas subside for Thursday and Friday.  Monday will see some diminishing of winds, before picking up on Monday Night through Wednesday Night.  Monday Night through Wednesday Night will have Gale Force winds possible with Small Craft Advisories at a minimum and even Gale Warnings are possible.    Surf and beach conditions will be good to ok.  Besides some gusty winds, up to gale force gusts, surf conditions will be good to ok.  Winds being mainly out of the west/northwest will keep wave heights 1-3 feet through Wednesday Night and then 1-2 feet to end the week.  Water temperatures are in the 50’s for all inshore waters with low 60’s offshore, now.  UV Index will be Low to Moderate with 1-3/15.

A high pressure system over the Ohio Valley will briefly build to the south Sunday Night into early Monday.  A strong cold front will then move across the area late Monday Night into Tuesday Morning. A strong Canadian High Pressure will then approach the Central Appalachians on Thursday.  The high pressure system will gradually move across the Appalachians on Friday before reaching the East Coast on Saturday. A strong cold frontal boundary will move through the Central Plains into the Ohio Valley on Sunday.

The weekend looks to be a continuation of the second half of this week with dry, sunny and seasonable temperatures.  High temperatures will be in the 50’s with lows in the 30’s and 40’s.  Water, surf and beach conditions look good for the weekend.

Good morning!  Happy Veterans Day and thank you to all who have served!!  A mix of sun and clouds this morning with mostly sunny skies.  Clouds will increase during the day becoming cloudy tonight.  Dry during the day today, but chances of rain or snow showers tonight.  Snow showers will be confined to northern, mainly northwestern areas of the state.  High temperatures will be in the low to mid 50’s with overnight lows in the upper 30’s to low 40’s except for northern/northwestern areas will be in the low 30’s and right around the freezing mark.  Winds will be out of the southwest today around 10 mph inland and 10-15 mph along the coast, increasing tonight with winds to 20 mph and higher gusts possible, especially for coastal areas.

Water conditions are cautious right now improving some during the day and then worsening again tonight into Tuesday.  Small Craft Advisories have replaced all of the Gale Warnings except for Offshore areas south of Long Island.  SCA’s will likely be cancelled at some point this morning, only to be re-issued for tonight.  Raritan Bay will have southwest winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots then 15 knots tonight becoming west after midnight with seas around 2 feet.  Barnegat Bay will have west-northwest winds at 10-15 knots becoming west-southwest in the afternoon then southwest tonight and then northwest after midnight with seas 1-2 feet.  Delaware Bay will have northwest winds 15-20 knots with gusts to 25 knots diminishing to 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots this afternoon then southwest late increasing to 15-20 knots tonight then shifting to the northwest after midnight with seas 2-4 feet subsiding to 2-3 feet tonight.  Inshore ocean waters will have northwest winds 20-25 knots with gusts to 30 knots becoming west 15-20 knots then northwest late.  This afternoon winds may diminish 10-15 knots for a short time.  Seas will be 2-3 feet at 8 seconds building to 3-5 feet at 4 seconds by tonight.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have northwest winds 20-30 knots becoming west to southwest at 10-20 knots in the afternoon then north to northwest tonight 15-25 knots with seas 5-9 feet subsiding to 3-5 feet in the afternoon then building 4-7 feet late tonight at 4-6 seconds.

Surf conditions are good to ok.  Besides gusty northwest to west to southwest winds today and tonight, surf heights will be relatively low compared to ocean waters.  Winds will start out of the northwest at 15-20 knots then diminishing some this afternoon out of the west to southwest at 10-15 knots and increasing by tonight to 15-20 knots with gusts possible to 30 knots.  Surf is calm this morning and will be normal today at 1-3 feet with a 2 foot varying swell.  Surf temperatures are in the low to mid 50’s.  UV Index will be Low to Moderate at 2-3/15.

Good morning!  Cloudy this morning with some rain and snow showers across the state.  Snow showers are to the north and west with the rain/snow line around Monmouth County and west to Mercer County and then rain to the south and east, moving southeast.  A cold front is moving into the area with Arctic air behind it; the coldest air of the season to date.  Temperatures were mild last night compared to the air moving in.  To the south and east of the front there are still 40’s while behind the front, mid 20’s to 30’s have taken over.  It will continue to be cloudy with rain and snow showers today before clearing out tonight and becoming mostly clear.  High temperatures will only be in the upper 30’s to mid 40’s today and this morning is likely the warmest point of the day.  Overnight lows will be in the low 20’s to low 30’s.  Northwest winds will pickup today  around 15 mph with some higher gusts during the day and down to 10 mph tonight.  Coastal areas will have higher winds in the 15-20 mph winds with gusts to 25+mph.

Water conditions will be cautious today with Small Craft Advisories active through Wednesday for all coastal waters from Sandy Hook east to Montauk and south to Delaware including all bays, New York Harbor, Raritan Bay, Delaware Bay and the Delaware River.  Just to the south of NJ, Gale Warnings are in effect as well, so southern areas are likely to see higher winds and seas than northern areas.  Raritan Bay will have northwest winds 15-20 knots with gusts to 30 knots with seas 2-3 feet and limited visibility to 1-3 nautical miles.  Barnegat Bay will have north-northwest winds 15-20 knots with gusts to 30 knots diminishing some tonight with seas 1-2 feet.  Delaware Bay will have northwest to north winds 15-20 knots becoming north 20-25 knots with gusts to 30 knots before diminishing some back to 15-20 knots with seas 2-4 feet building to 3-4 feet tonight.  Inshore ocean waters will have northwest to north winds 15-20 knots becoming north 20-25 knots with gusts to 30 knots and seas 3-5 feet building to 4-6 feet tonight at 5 seconds.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have west to southwest winds 15-20 knots becoming north 20-30 knots with seas 5-9 feet building to 6-11 feet tonight at 5 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions are good to ok.  Only headlines on the beach are going to be the gusting winds, wave heights will not be much of an issue.  Winds will start west to southwest at 15-20 knots becoming north to northwest at 20-25 knots with gusts to 30 knots.  Surf will be normal to rough with wave heights 1-3 feet with a 2-4 foot south to southwest then north to northeast swell at 5 seconds.  Surf temperatures are in the low 50’s.  UV Index will be low at 1-2/15.

Good morning!  It is COLD this morning with teens to just at the freezing mark across the state.  Sunny though, with a few clouds mixed in.  It will continue to be sunny all day becoming mostly clear tonight with dry conditions.  Temperatures will be well below average for November.  Highs today will only be in the upper 30’s to low 40’s.  Overnight lows will be in the mid 20’s inland, low 30’s along the coast and low 20’s for northern/northwestern areas.  It will be windy today as well.  Inland areas will have northwest winds 10-15 mph while coastal areas will have 15-20 mph with higher gusts possible.  This will make wind chills 10+ degrees colder.

Water conditions are cautious at best today with Gale Warnings from Little Egg Inlet south through Delaware including the Lower Delaware Bay with Small Craft Advisories from Sandy Hook east to Long Island and south to Little Egg Inlet and from Mid Delaware Bay up the Delaware River.  Warnings and Advisories are active until noon today, however, at minimum Small Craft Advisories will replace expiring Gale Warnings through this evening and tonight.  Winds will be 25-35 knots today, diminishing some throughout the day.  Raritan Bay will have northwest winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots becoming west tonight with seas around 2 feet.  Barnegat Bay will have northwest winds 15-20 knots with gusts to 25 knots becoming west-northwest tonight at around 10 knots with seas around 1 foot.  Delaware Bay will have northwest wind 20-25 knots with gusts to 35 knots diminishing later today to 10-15 knots with gusts to 25 knots then west 10-15 knots tonight with seas 2-4 feet subsiding to 1-2 feet tonight.  Northern inshore ocean waters will have northwest winds 20-25 knots diminishing to 10-15 knots this afternoon then west tonight at 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots with seas 3-5 feet at 6 seconds subsiding to 2-3 feet at 6 seconds tonight.  Southern inshore ocean waters will have northwest winds 20-25 knots with gusts to 35 knots diminishing to 15-20 knots with gusts to 25 knots late today then west at 10-15 knots with gusts to 25 knots tonight with seas 5-8 feet subsiding to 4-6 feet by the afternoon then 2-4 feet tonight at 6 seconds.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have north to northwest winds 20-30 knots diminishing to 15-20 knots tonight then becoming west to northwest with seas 6-12 feet subsiding to 5-8 feet tonight at 6 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions will be good to ok.  Gusting winds in excess of 20 knots to the north and 30 knots to the south are the only flags today.  Surf conditions will not be overly affected again, due to the westerly component of the winds.  Northwest winds will be 15-20 knots with gusts to 25 knots across northern beaches and 20-25 knots with gusts to 30-35 knots across southern beaches.  Winds will diminish by 5-15 knots by this afternoon statewide.  Surf will be normal, slightly rougher across southern areas with wave heights 1-2 feet across northern beaches and 1-3 maybe some 2-4 at times across southern beaches with a 2-4 northerly swell at 4-6 seconds.  Surf temperatures are in the low 50’s.  UV Index will be Low to Moderate at 2-3/15.

Good morning!  Another cold start, but sunny skies with a few clouds today and mostly clear tonight.  Temperatures will start moderating today through the weekend towards average to even slightly above average by early next week.  High temperatures today will be in the upper 40’s to low 50’s.  Overnight lows will be in the low to mid 30’s inland, upper 30’s to low 40’s along the coast and low 20’s across northern and northwestern areas.  West to southwest winds will be 10-15 mph inland with 10-20 mph along the coast.

Water conditions are cautious to good with improving conditions throughout the day.  Small Craft Advisories have been cancelled from Little Egg Inlet south.  Small Craft Advisories are still in effect for Sandy Hook east along Long Island and South to Little Egg Inlet.  Winds could still gust in all areas up to 25 knots.  Raritan Bay will have west winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 25 knots becoming southwest 5-10 knots tonight with seas 2 feet subsiding to 1 foot or less.  Barnegat Bay will have west winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 25 knots becoming west-southwest at 7-12 knots tonight with seas around 1 foot or less.  Delaware Bay will have southwest winds 5-10 knots with seas 1-2 feet.  Northern inshore ocean waters will have west winds 15-20 knots with gusts to 30 knots becoming southwest 15-20 knots tonight and diminishing to 10-15 knots after midnight with seas 2-4 feet at 6 seconds.  Southern inshore ocean waters will have west winds 10-15 knots becoming southwest 15-20 knots late this morning diminishing to 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots tonight with seas 2-4 feet at 4-5 seconds.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have west winds 15-25 knots becoming west to southwest at 15-20 knots tonight with seas 4-6 feet subsiding to 3-6 feet tonight at 5 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions will be good to ok.  West winds will still be gusty becoming southwest later today.  Winds will vary from 10-20 knots with gusts to 25 knots.  Surf will be normal with wave heights 1-2 feet with a 2-4 foot southwest swell at 4 seconds.  Surf temperatures have fallen into the mid 40’s to low 50’s.  UV Index will be Low to Moderate at 2-3/15.

The NWS PHI issued a statement that they have received some reports of blow out tides in the bays.

Quote

We are receiving reports of near blowout tides developing along the northern and central New Jersey coastline with the midday low tide cycle. While tidal levels are not low enough to warrant a low water advisory, please be aware of the lower than usual water levels. In addition, there remains the possibility of strong west winds, which will keep the water levels low. Navigation may be limited for moored vessels in low water through at least 3pm this afternoon.

Good morning!  Cold with sun and a mx of clouds this morning.  Mostly sunny becoming mostly cloudy to cloudy tonight.  It will be dry during the day, but tonight will bring some chances of rain into Saturday.  High temperatures will get up into the mid 50’s to low 60’s.  Overnight lows will be in the low to upper 40’s with low 30’s across northern areas.  Winds will be calm inland from the southwest at 5-10 mph and moderate along the coast at 10-15 mph.

Water conditions will be good for all locations except  winds could be gusty to around 20 knots.  Raritan Bay will have southwest winds 5-10 knots with seas 1 foot or less.  Barnegat Bay will have southwest winds around 10 knots with seas 1 foot or less.  Delaware Bay will have southwest winds 5-10 knots with seas 1-2 feet.  Inshore ocean waters will have west to southwest winds 10-20 knots with seas 2-3 feet at 4-5 seconds.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have west to southwest winds 10-20 knots with seas 2-4 feet at 5 seconds.
