Title: NJ Fishing & Boating Weather Outlook Weekly Edition: Nov 18-22, 2013
Post by: Pfishingruven on November 17, 2013, 08:58:20 PM: A rollercoaster of a week between unsettled and settled weather with a start of cautious and hazardous water conditions. As a strong cold front pushes through the area Sunday Night into Monday morning, the week will start with showers and even some thunderstorms and strong winds 10-20 mph with gusts in excess of 60 mph during the overnight hours. Monday Day will continue with mostly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of rain showers. By Monday Night conditions will start to clear with mostly clear skies, and dry conditions through Friday before rain chances return. The middle of the week will be sunny with some clouds before mostly cloudy conditions return on Friday with possible rain. This should clear out by Saturday for a clear weekend. High temperatures will be in the 40’s and 50’s. Overnight lows will get down into the 20’s and 30’s again. Monday will be very windy with 15-20 mph winds with gusts to 35 mph through Tuesday Night before diminishing. Water conditions will be cautious to hazardous with Small Craft Advisories statewide, Dense Fog Advisories for Raritan Bay through Sandy Hook and Gale Warnings for Offshore waters east of Sandy Hook and south of Long Island through Tuesday Night. Tuesday Night or Wednesday will see a diminishing of winds and seas with SCA’s being dropped and good conditions returning through the weekend. Water temperatures are in the 40’s and 50’s. Surf and beach conditions will vary this week from good to ok to maybe even cautious at times. Gusty westerly winds will start the week with wave heights 2-4 feet followed by increasing seas midweek 2-5 feet. UV Index will be Low 2/15.

A strong cold frontal boundary will move through the region late Sunday Night and Monday Morning. High pressure will build in behind this front reaching the East Coast on Wednesday. Another cold front will move across the Midwest on Thursday before moving into the Ohio Valley and New England on Friday. High pressure will build in behind this front next weekend.

The weekend looks dry and cold with good water and surf conditions. This will depend on the cold front being on time and moving in by Friday. If it is delayed at all, rain chances could carry over into Saturday!

Skies will continue to be mostly cloudy to partly sunny today with chances of some showers until tonight. The cold front will pass through the area today with colder and drier air behind it. High temperatures will be in the low to upper 60’s and then begin falling this afternoon back into the 50’s. Overnight lows will be in the mid to upper 30’s inland, low 40’s along coastal areas and mid 30’s in northern areas. It will be windy today with a west wind 10-20 mph with gusts to 25-35 mph.

Water conditions are cautious this morning for all locations. Small Craft Advisories are in effect for all coastal waters from Sandy Hook east to Montauk and south to Delaware including New York Harbor, Raritan Bay, Delaware Bay and Delaware River. Raritan Bay will have southwest winds 15-20 knots with gusts to 30 knots becoming west this afternoon and seas 2 feet subsiding to 1-2 feet then 1 foot or less tonight. Delaware Bay will have west winds 15-20 knots with gusts to 30 knots becoming northwest tonight with seas 2-4 feet building to 3-5 feet tonight. Inshore ocean waters will have west to northwest winds 20-25 knots diminishing some this afternoon and then increasing tonight with seas 5-8 feet subsiding to 4-6 feet at 7-8 seconds. Midshore to Offshore waters will have south to southwest winds 0-30 knots becoming west to southwest 15-25 knots this afternoon and then west to northwest 20-30 knots with seas 4-7 feet building to 5-9 feet then back to 4-8 feet tonight at 7-8 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions are ok to cautious. Southwest to west to northwest winds will be 15-20 knots with gusts to 35 knots today. Surf is rough with wave heights 2-4 feet average with some 3-5 footers possible and a 3-5 foot southeast swell at 7 seconds. UV Index is Low at 2/15.

Dry and windy today, which will bring an Enhanced Risk of Wildfires today. High temperatures will be in the mid 40’s to low 50’s. Overnight lows will be in the mid to upper 20’s inland, low 30’s along the coast and low 20’s across northern areas. Northwest winds will be gusty at 10-25 mph with higher winds along the coast. Winds will shift to the north tonight and diminish to 5-15 mph.

Water conditions will be cautious today with Small Craft Advisories into Wednesday for Sandy Hook east to Montauk and south to Delaware including New York Harbor, Raritan Bay, Delaware Bay and the Delaware River. The westerly wind component will keep the surf down today. Surf temperatures are in the low to mid 50’s. UV Index will be Low at 2/15.

Dry again with no rain in the forecast. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 40’s. Overnight lows will be back in the upper 20’s to low 30’s with upper 30’s across southern areas (mainly coastal) and low 20’s across northern areas. Winds will be light today out of the northeast to east at 5-10 mph.

Water conditions will begin improving today with cautious conditions to start and becoming good for all locations except Offshore. Winds will be gustier this morning, diminish this afternoon and could pickup some tonight again, however they will remain below SCA criteria. Raritan Bay will have northeast winds 5-10 knots diminishing to 5 knots tonight with seas 1 foot or less. Barnegat Bay will have north-northeast around 10 knots becoming east-northeast tonight and then east after midnight around 5-10 knots with seas around 2 feet. Delaware Bay will have northeast winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots today diminishing to east at 5-10 knots tonight with seas 2-3 feet. Inshore ocean waters will have northeast to east winds 15-20 knots diminishing to 10-15 knots in the afternoon with gusts to 20 knots tonight and seas 3-4 feet at 9 seconds increasing to 13 seconds tonight. Midshore to Offshore will have northeast winds 20-25 knots diminishing to 15-20 knots later today then east at 10-15 knots tonight with seas 4-7 feet at 9 seconds increasing to 13 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions will be good today becoming ok to cautious tonight when the winds shift from northeast to more easterly. Winds will be northeast 10-20 knots becoming east at 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots tonight. Surf will be normal today become rougher tonight with wave heights 1-2 to 2-4 feet with a 2-3 foot east-southeast swell at 9 seconds. Tonight waves will increase 2-5 feet at 13 seconds. Surf temperatures are in the low 50’s. UV Index Low at 2/15.

Clouds will build in today becoming partly cloudy. Dry with no rain in the forecast for daytime, but tonight and tomorrow will bring some rain chances increasing into Friday Night and lingering into Saturday. High temperatures for today will be in the low 50’s except for northern/northwestern areas in the mid 40’s. Overnight lows for most places tonight were yesterday highs as a warm front lifts north. Lows will be in the low to mid 40’s with upper 40’s across southern coastal areas and mid to upper 30’s across northern areas. South to southeast winds will be light at 5-10 mph.

Water conditions are good today for all locations. Enjoy it because the next 3-5, even 5-7 days are looking to shift more to the cautious side. Winds will be light out of the east to southeast with seas recovering mostly today. Raritan Bay will have southeast becoming south tonight at 5-10 knots with seas 1 foot or less. Barnegat Bay will have southeast to southwest winds 5-10 knots with seas 1-2 feet. Delaware Bay will have northeast becoming southeast this afternoon then southwest tonight at 5-10 knots with seas 5-10 knots. Inshore ocean waters will have east to southeast winds becoming southwest tonight at 5-10 knots with seas 2-4 feet at 12-13 seconds. Midshore to Offshore waters will have east to southeast becoming southwest tonight at 5-10 knots with seas 2-4 feet at 12-13 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions are good to ok (very fishable). Winds will be east to southeast becoming southwest tonight at 5-10 knots. The easterly winds are stacking waves up and making the surf rough this morning. Surf will continue to be on the rougher side today with wave heights 2-5 feet with a 2-3 foot east-southeast swell at 12-13 seconds. Actual waves are breaking every 2-4 seconds and pushing a lot of water into the beaches. Surf temperatures are in the low 50’s. UV Index will be Low at 2/15.

Cloudy today with chances of showers through the overnight with some showers already in some areas. Into the overnight it will become mostly cloudy and start clearing out by Saturday. High temperatures today will be in the mid 50’s to low 60’s, from a lifting warm front crossing the area. Overnight lows will be in the low to mid 40’s with low 30’s across northern areas. Saturday Night will see VERY cold air move into the region, with 30’s for highs and teens and 20’s overnight with wind chills in the single digits this weekend! West winds will be light inland at 5-10 mph and moderate along the coast at 10-15 mph, increasing by the afternoon and through the weekend.

Water conditions will be good this morning becoming cautious by this afternoon. However, this morning’s winds will border on SCA criteria. By this afternoon winds will increase and Small Craft Advisories are in effect at 10PM Friday Night for all Bays, the Delaware River and coastal ocean waters along the East Coast from Maine to North Carolina. Gale Warnings are active now for all Offshore waters east of 20 nm. Conditions will be cautious at best this weekend with a period of hazardous conditions on Saturday Night and Sunday. Offshore waters will be hazardous most of the weekend with seas nearing 13 feet. Raritan Bay will have west winds 5-10 knots with gusts to 20 knots today then 10 knots becoming northwest after midnight with gusts to 25 knots with seas 1 foot or less increasing to 2 feet after midnight. Barnegat Bay will have west winds 9-12 knots becoming west-southwest tonight then northwest 14-17 knots after midnight with gusts to 25 knots with seas 1-2 feet. Delaware Bay will have southwest winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots becoming west at 15-20 knots with gusts to 25 knots this evening then northwest 20-25 knots with gusts to 30 knots after midnight with seas 2-3 feet increasing to 2-4 feet tonight. Inshore ocean waters will have southwest winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots becoming west tonight and increasing to 15-20 knots with gusts to 25 knots in the evening then northwest 20-25 knots with gusts to 30 knots tonight with seas 3-4 feet at 9 seconds increasing to 3-5 feet at 8 seconds tonight. Midshore to Offshore waters will have southwest winds 10-15 knots increasing to west to southwest 15-25 knots in the afternoon then west to northwest at 20-25 knots after midnight with seas 2-4 feet building to 3-6 feet at 9 seconds today then 4-7 feet at 8 seconds tonight.

Surf and beach conditions will be good to ok today. Winds will increase throughout the day from the southwest to west to northwest by tonight at 10-15 knots, increasing to 15-20 knots in the afternoon and then 20-25 knots by tonight. Surf is rougher with wave heights 1-3 feet with a 2-3 foot east-southeast swell at 9-10 seconds. The gusty west winds will clean up the surf, decreasing wave heights and increasing water clarity into Saturday and for the rest of the weekend. Surf temperatures are in the upper 40’s to low 50’s. UV Index will be Low at 1-2/15.

Watching for the possible development of a low pressure system that will move off the southeast coast next week and track to the northeast. This system could become a coastal storm/Nor’Easter affecting -the area around Tuesday or Wednesday. All of the models have been trending this storm for the last 7-10 days and now the models are beginning to come to an agreement, hinting at a coastal track. This is still a few days early to pinpoint anything and track will be the major deciding factor. The area could see nothing or we could be in for a Nor’Easter with high winds, heavy rains/snow, coastal flooding and beach erosion. More to come…
