Title: Party boat etiquette winning the pool
Post by: Galsmiley on November 23, 2013, 06:57:45 PM
Hi,

If you win the pool on a party boat, is it customary to share a portion of your winnings with the mates? If so, how much? I've heard everything from 0 to 50%.  I like to take care of "my boys", but I don't want to shortchange them ( or myself, for that matter! )

This would be in addition to your regular tip.

Thoughts?

Denise

Denise,

Your post has been derailed.

Despite what is posted I rarely win pools.

It's a call you need to make at the time based on the trip.
I usually tip mates 20% of the fare regardless of the fishing results that day.
I have had a few pools where I felt an additional $75 was appropriate and one where I was a guest with a group that said they give 50% of pool so I did with no problem.
Mates that work hard deserve to be compensated.

In the past when  I did win the pool I usually  take out my cost of the fare, and then generously take care of all the mates and ask my fishing buddies to have a few colds ones with me. Every body is happy happy happy. I come home with LESS money than when I started...but its priceless. chrz
