I have been able to catch them, But i am looking for a better setup then i have, mine works just feel i owe myself a better setup. so i am open for suggestions, mind you i am not looking to go broke. Love fishing just a few inches off the water and hooking big fish..... clp

Dale....Find a nice 6 foot St.Croix rod with a short rod Butt,Then I use a US Reel Model 230-240 with 40 pound power pro line......Total cost around $250.00

slt Dave, thank you as always. i guess i have to start looking around. TT^

Dale....Find a Rod you like....Does not need to be a top of the line St,Croix....Just be sure its around the 6 foot mark.
The Butt section of the rod can be cut down using and hand saw with a fine blade....Then with a little epoxy and new Butt cap can be put in place.....A good rule is hold the rod in your hand at the reel seat.....The Butt should end at the bottom of your elbow.....Most of my Kayak Rods have a 8-10 inch Butt.....so that I can fight a fish easy.....

Dave,
I did that to one of my better poles after going to the class you gave last year on kayaking.
One of the ideas you told me was that. so i did it and loved it, i even put a little i lid in the butt end so i could attach a clip to the pole and not worry about the ocean claiming it on me. the downside was my son was helping me with fishing gear and closed the trunk lid on it. not the end of the world. but he got a new broken pole to fish with that day....
Look forward to getting back on the water with the yak so i can go stripper fishing, soon i hope?????

so i was out TO a store the other day SPORTS AUTHORITY, The store by me is doing away with its fishing department so everything went on 50% off. so i purchased some Pencil poppers, circle hooks braided line, striper eel rigs. i also purchased two new poles and reels, one is a pen slammer pole 6 or 7 foot a Penn Fierce 5000 Spinning Reel total $45.00
the other is a OKUMA Baitrunner on a 7 foot pole forgot name. total for that combo $40.00
so i am set for the spring, so i think.

Dale, it sounds like your all set. All you need now is the weather to cooperate.
I can't wait to get out there as this winter has brought about many changes for us. Besides the normal colds and without going into further detail; what used to be a house of 2 with the occasional daughter coming and going is now a house of 5 adults 2 dogs and 2 cats.
I need to escape real soon or I will loose my mind.
Happy Catching
