With the weather looking good and day time temperatures on the rise we are all starting to hear the reports of the spring Stripers being caught.......
I don't ever really talk much about fishing bait while out kayak fishing....most always hear me talking about fishing lures....
The kayak has a better drift then most boats and you can really cover a lot of water.....I would recommend that while your out this spring.....dead stick a rod with little to no weight.....using Sandworms or Clams.
I look at it this way.....your out fishing anyway....and its because you enjoy just being on the water....Right
So why not just throw a extra rod in the kayak and drop some bait down and see what happens....you can still throw plugs or soft rubber baits.....By dead sticking a second rod you just going to increase the chance of the early spring Striper or weakfish.
Now get off the couch....Get the kayak and fishing gear.....and catch some of these Early spring fish.

Heading out right now. Just finishing breakfast, and packing a lunch. Plan on being out for a full day. Gonna hit the Sandy Hook area. Probable stay in the Bay. Supposed to be in the mid 70's with a 10-20 mph wind. So even if I don't catch anything I should have a great time on the water.

Great Day. Nothing caught, but what a beautiful day to be out. Used some gulp with jig heads. No takers. Bummer. All and all though equipment performed excellently. Was heeled over about 15 degrees most of the day while sail was deployed. Just got finished cleaning yak and equipment.
Should be a great summer.

Well I was out on the water at 7:30am , out of Belford, water temp was cold really cold, met three other yakers out there, no luck, dead sticked clam and through swim baits.
the guys I met told me, yesterday the Bass were on the surface, the wind kicked up around 12:oo.
so I stayed out a little more then called it a day with the white caps. my fish finder said surface temp got up to 53,
I think I will wait till the hit is on, was very cold wind blowing in off the ocean,
