Summer makes an early appearance; hot and humid with scattered showers and thunderstorms all week, but good water conditions. At some point in the day, every day this week, including next weekend, will have chances of scattered to widely scattered and even more widespread showers and/or thunderstorms. As high pressure shifts southeast of the region, it will begin a period of southerly flow pumping hot and humid air into the area. Monday will see 70’s along the coast and 80’s inland with 60’s overnight. By Tuesday and for Wednesday highs will be in the upper 80’s and low 90’s with some mid 90’s possible inland. Coastal areas will only see a slight reprieve in the mid 80’s. Overnight lows will be in the upper 60’s to low 70’s. Heat indices for Tuesday and Wednesday will easily reach the mid 90’s with upper 90’s, possibly even the 100’s. Hydrate and stay directly out of the sun, if you can. For Thursday, temperatures will drop back into the 70’s and 80’s and stay there for Friday and into the weekend. Overnight lows will be in the 60’s with some upper 50’s returning for parts of NNJ on Thursday Night. Water conditions are good, all week, for all locations. Northern Areas/Sandy Hook to Fire Island Inlet on Wednesday and Thursday could feel the southerly flow effects with winds increasing to 10-15 knots with some higher gusts, but below SCA criteria. Other than that, the week looks solid. Surf and beach conditions will be good with a chance of 10-15 knots winds on Wednesday and Thursday, also. Surf heights will not be affected too much, staying in the 1-3 foot range with some 2-4 foot wave scattered about this week. Rip Current Risk will be Low this week, however, Low does not mean there won’t be or can’t be rip currents still present. Water temperatures are steady in the upper 60’s to mid 70’s in rivers and bays, upper 60’s to low 70’s in the surf, and low to mid 60’s for ocean waters. Offshore waters have increased into the mid 60’s. UV Index will be Moderate to Very High ranging from 4-10/15.
High pressure over the area will shift south and center off the Southeast Coast this week. A weak trough moves east through the Mid Atlantic Monday Night. A cold front over the Great Lakes Wednesday will move down through the region Thursday, then stall just south for the weekend.
The Atlantic is quiet. The hurricane (Christina) in the E. Pacific has weakened to a Post Tropical Cyclone and is still not a threat to land. There is another area in the E. Pacific being watched.
The weekend looks like a continuation of this week with chances of scattered shower and thunderstorms both days. It does not look like a washout, though. Temperatures will continue in the 70’s and 80’s with lows in the 60’s. Air looks to be drier than midweek, but still moderate to higher at times humidity.
Have a great week and thanks for reading!
