Title: NJ Fishing & Boating Weather Outlook Weekly Edition: July 21-25, 2014
Post by: Pfishingruven on July 20, 2014, 07:21:46 PM
Temperatures and humidity increase and chances of thunderstorms return, while water conditions look mostly good this week. Dry conditions will start and end the week with chances of showers and thunderstorms midweek. Monday and Friday will be dry, however Tuesday through Thursday could bring chances of showers and thunderstorms.  Showers and thunderstorms will be scattered to widely scattered with potential of more organized storms later in the afternoons/evenings. Widespread rain and storms do not look likely this week, however locally heavy rains are possible within thunderstorms. Severe weather is not in the forecast right now, but could be updated daily. Temperatures will return to average with upper 70’s and 80’s with moderate to higher humidity. Overnight lows will continue in the 60’s and low 70’s with lows Thursday and Friday Night across the north in the upper 50’s and low 60’s. Water conditions are rated good for all locations, all week. Small Craft Advisories should be cancelled by Monday; an unexpected deepening of the offshore low caused higher winds and seas to 6.6 feet today. Winds could be gusty on Wednesday and Thursday with gusts to 20 knots possible. Variable winds this week will mix up the flow, with a southerly flow on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Otherwise, no marine headlines are anticipated. Surf and beach conditions will be good as well. Surf could be rougher on Monday with an onshore flow with waves 1-3 feet with the potential for 2-4 feet and a 4+ foot swell. The remainder of the week, surf will be normal around 1-3 feet. Low to Moderate Risk of Rip Currents. Water temperatures have cooled some. Rivers and bays are in the 70’s. Surf temperatures are in the mid to upper 60’s with some low 70’s in areas. Inshore ocean waters are in the upper 60’s to low 70’s. Midshore to offshore waters are in the low 70’s. UV Index will be Moderate to Very High.

Weak low pressure located off the Mid-Atlantic Coast will move out to sea Sunday. High pressure will establish itself over the region, Monday through Wednesday. A cold front from the Northwest will arrive on Thursday with high pressure following for Friday and Saturday. A warm front will approach from the South on Sunday.

There is an area in the Eastern Atlantic and Eastern Pacific being watched for potential development.

The weekend looks dry right now with hot and humid temperatures. Water, surf and beach conditions look good as well.

Have a great week and thanks for reading!

Title: Re: Potential Severe Weather for Wednesday
Post by: Pfishingruven on July 23, 2014, 11:39:03 AM
There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms for late afternoon through the overnight, today. Some of these storms could be strong to severe, especially for Western and Northern NJ. Storms are capable of heavy rains, dangerous lightning and damaging winds; small hail is also possible.

Be alert for changing conditions!

Title: Re: Strong to Severe Storms Southern Half of NJ Today
Post by: Pfishingruven on July 24, 2014, 02:56:04 PM
There is a generalized risk of strong to severe thunderstorms for the southern half of NJ today, Thursday. Storms could produce heavy rains, dangerous lightning and damaging winds. Like any severe weather hail and tornadoes can never be ruled out.

A sea breeze has moved onshore; this ocean generated front/marine layer has helped stabilize the atmosphere along the coast and is the reason storms fizzled out before reaching coastal areas, even inland coastal areas yesterday.

Be alert for any changing weather, especially on the water. Despite storms weakening and dying before reaching the coast, storms can still be dangerous and even intensify over the open waters.
